Something is seriously messed up. I have been using a workflow for years where I render individual tracks to WAV using the File -> Export Song as Audio File button. From there, I take the tracks into a DAW. I have done this workflow with nearly 100 songs in recent years. I have had no problems recently until about 3 months ago.
I am using BIAB 2021 with Windows 10. Now, in most cases when I try to render the tracks, the bass track comes out completely silent, and usually the guitar track as well. Piano and Drums always play normally.
If I render a full song mix, all the instruments play normally. And if I drag the bass or guitar into the little box that has WAV, MP3, MID, etc., it renders properly. It is only when using the File -> Export Song as Audio File button that these tracks come out silent.
I have completely reinstalled BIAB and all the styles. No good.
It seems to fail on multiple style files -- it is not just one bad style.
I tried substituting a different bass patch and it was still silent.
I created a new song file completely from scratch and it is still silent.
I don't know exactly when this went wrong. I worked on a bunch of songs from January through July of 2021. The past few months I was diverted onto some other work. I just returned to a song I had started in July and found I had generated silent tracks for bass and guitar, and never went any farther.
Since that time, I may have applied two patches to BIAB and am currently running the latest patch. There have been lots of Windows patches in that time.
Anybody have any ideas what might be going wrong here? Here is a test file that exhibits the problem on my system:

Aaaaack. I dragged these WAVs into the DAW and they are fine. For some reason, Windows Media Player doesn't sound on those files, even though the content is there.
If I put them in Cubase, Audacity or Transcribe, they are fine.
If I try to play them with Media Player or Groove Music, Pno and Drums work but bass and guitar are silent.
So Microsoft is doing something really goofy here. I can use my regular workflow, which did not depend on Windows Media Player.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."
"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."
"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
