Hi all,
I am so impressed with the quality of backing tracks that Real tracks can produce that I am trying to 'freeze' a selection to enable me to play with just a CD as accompaniment. I am using the following format: First time around, me on melody: Second, Real Tracks solo (love the trumpet!): Third my solo: Fourth melody.
I'm facing a number of problems...
1 I am required to select a DXi (i'm using the one supplied) synth to do this and this often prompts a crash and BIAB closes
2 If I can avoid this problem I am finding that the Real Tracks solo seems to be out of sync.
3 If I save the song without freezing, when I open again, the solo has disappeared!
Has anybody else experienced these issues?
Despite these problems, I have to say that Real Tracks have given my playing a new lease of life.
Thanks in advance

Hi Mark,

I am as thrilled as yourself with the fantastic sound of the RealTracks/drum features and they have bought a new enthusiasm to practise and playing

It sounds as though you are using the VSC DXi as supplied but go through the various set up's to make sure it is properly selected - you can also purchase from PG Music another DXi called Coyote Forte DXi and this seems to be far more stable than the VSC DXi

I found a few irritating problems with using both freeze and rendering so I am now using a different route to get a CD set of backings.
I bought a soundcard with a "what you hear" recording feature on like the Creative SB X-Fi Xtreme Gamer and this allows you to record in real time and you get - what you hear - with accurate volume and sync - it obviously takes longer to do but is much much quicker in the long run to get "what you hear"

You can even fade in/out and raise lower volume of certain instruments as you record or even raise/lower the master volume to get more effect

Others without this type of soundcard have used neat little App's like called SuperMp3player to do exactly the same job

Hi Jazzman,
This is great advice.
I have downloaded the demo for Coyote and will certainly upgrade to the full version ASAP.
Unfortunately I run a laptop and therefore the soundcard option won't work for me but I will certainly try out the Supermp3 option.
Thanks for taking the time to help.
Regards
Mark

Hi Mark,

The Supermp3player is marketed by AdmireSoft but if you are using Vista just check to see if it works - it works with one of my friends but it is not showing Vista on the website he is using it with Vista in XP Compatibility mode

The Coyote Forte DXi is great for Midi sounds but is bypassed when RealTracks etc is used

However there are other programs that do the same having just checked by googling super mp3 player

You should be able to use the built-in sound card of your laptop. I have a Toshiba running Vista with the generic sound card they ship. The Record Audio function works fine.

Also, if you only using RealTracks and RealDrums, the Coyote Forte is not needed. Forte generally has better sounds for Midi than the Roland VSC/DXi.

I am using Rolands TTS-1 and i love it, it came free in the latest Cakewalk MC5 for $39 Plus there was a program called Sound center there as well 150 samples from Dimension Pro, and Rapture. That was worth the price, between those two and real tracks i am cooking with gas.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
