I've have not been able to get my Yamaha PSR-220 keyboard to communicate with BIAB. Process of elimination seems to indicate that I have a bad USB-MIDI cable. The one I have is: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B0017H4EBG/ref=pe_175190_21431760_cs_sce_dp_2, and I've since read a review here: http://www.amazon.com/review/R25076F0UT8...Mx34L9K9C4MKAN9 that indicates that there may be a bad batch/version of this cable.

I've ordered this cable twice and twice have gotten one that doesn't work. So, I'd like to buy a USB-MIDI cable locally, if that's possible, but I don't have any musical instrument stores in my area. Is there a reliable, reasonably-priced USB-MIDI cable available at stores like Walmart, Best Buy, Target, K-Mart, Staples, etc?

If so, I'd appreciate a link.

Thanks!

YIKES!
I just ordered the same one to go with a Yamaha EZ200 MIDI keyboard I just ordered from amazon.
I know some USB/MIDI cables are advertised for $45 or $50 so thought I'd try this one and save a few bucks.
Maybe not such a good idea.

Will see what the experts here recommend.

Are you using a PC or a Mac?
I'm using Windows XP service pack 3 on a Dell desktop.
May make a difference?

Will let you know if mine works when they arrive probably next week.

I've used the X-Midi 1x1 USB MIDI Cable and the X-MIDI 2x2 successfully on both Windows XP (32-bit), Windows Vista (32-bit), and Windows 7 (64-bit).

I'm using a PC, running Windows XP Media Center Edition, Serviice Pack 2. Amazon's order page for this item shows it inscribed with a Treble Clef logo, but what they deliver (at least in my case) has a "USB MIDI" logo on it. Supposedly, the one with the Treble Clef logo works, but the one with the USB MIDI logo does not. Like you, I also thought that I'd save some money. I guess that doesn't pay somtimes....

At least this cable cost under 6 bucks. At that price, it's not worth the hassle of returning it. It is still annoying though.

I hope that you make out better than I did. Please report back on which one Amazon sends you, and whether or not it works for you.

Bert

Just received the 1x1 cable and it works! I had to download/install updated drivers because the latency without them was terrible (almost 35 seconds!). There's still a split second lag, but I can live with it. At least my MIDI In works now.

Thanks, John!

Tried the CHEAPO cable with the USB/ MIDI logo on it from HDE I ordered on amazon when it arrived today.
Absolutely no joy with either Win XP or Win 7 Professional.

Even tried updating VIEWCON drivers for it.

Will be ordering the good stuff. Thanks to all for the advice.
I posted a Warning to others on the Unhappy with MIDI sounds Forum Post also.

Also am loving the Yamaha EZ 200 keyboard so far, perfect for a beginner like me.

Have a good one,
Carkins

I see a poster, "Wind" with advertising posts on every thread that I open to read. Someone needs to tell them we have rules. I thought there was no advertising allowed on this forum--especially in every thread!
