I mentioned this a few years ago and evidently I ruffled some feathers. I'm not trying to make anyone mad but I think this should be prevented at PG Music.
I am working with style -MCGRUDER.STY. It has a midi piano part that is not on any subdivision of the beat. It comes in after the 1 but not on the e, the and or the uh. Not only that, different notes in the chord come in at different places in the beat.
It makes the song sound like the piano player has no clue where the one beat is or that he got drunk/stoned on the break. Saying this is what got me in trouble last time but there is no better way to describe it. Note that I am not saying the PG Music people are drunk or stoned.
Shouldn't the parts be on the one unless we ask for something different when we create our songs? Is there some kind of utility PG Music could run when they create a style that would prevent this?
I've just had a play around with the style and it works fine to my ears. It didn't sound out of time to me. (Also, I've used the -MGRUDER.STY because I couldn't find -MCGRUDER.STY.)
Below is a brief rendering of the demo song for this style. (I've increased the volume of the piano a tad so that it's easier to hear.)
I notice that the piano part in this style plays a lot of arpeggiated notes that start on the main beat and end on a lesser beat. I wonder if it is this that's causing a sense of 'out of time' for you?
I don't know if you are aware of this, but if you don't like that particular piano, you can always use a "Hybrid Style" to replace it with the piano from another style file that you like.
1. Find a .STY file whose piano you like.
2. Follow 1, 2, 3, 4 on the image below.
3. Use "Choose" (#5) to navigate to the STY file whose piano you want to use.
4. Save the STY file with a new name (#6) so that the old style file is still available if you ever need it.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.
