So really there's not a lot of difference between using the 2018 Daw plugin and the 2019 VST plugin, both allow you to drag over generated tracks, both allow chord sheet entries, both allow style changes, both allow Realtrack picker etc...
The syncing of the master tempo from DAW to BIAB is crucial for workflow, what about tempo changes in the DAW will BIAB follow the master.
Obviously the Multi Riff function is a great composing tool and I'm sure a few other nifty extras but the integration as a VST plugin still needs working on.

That is what I am starting to understand. This VST appears to offer little new that we didn't already have except the multiriff feature. And it also appears that the VST is a limited version of BIAB without things like bar settings and chord settings. I am only going by the things I am hearing here as I have not received my hard drive yet and do not want to wait for it to download!

my understanding so far is the tempo is NOT synced and only obtained from the DAW when you initially add the VST. so any changes you make would require you to manually make them in the VST too. if you are changing tempo within your song I don't think that could be handled in the VST. and anyway, the tracks you generate in the VST are NOT in your DAW until you drag them there and once you do that there is no connection from them to the VST.

I am waiting for the 2019 manual, with fond hope that it will include step by step instructions on how to: a) find the vst in BIAB; load it successfully to a DAW; and then how to use it in the DAW.

Yes this is needed !, and at the moment you need to manually change the tempo at any bar by typing t=110 or t=140 etc.. to change the time sig 4/4 or 3/4
in the chord picker tool version for the vst I put some buttons to make this easier.
Hopefully the vst will have a drag export of a midi file with midi chords and chord name markers, this can be dragged out into the DAW to give the midi chords for Virtual Instruments that follow chords as well as give you the Chord names in Markers, tempo map and time signature changes.
There should also be an import drop point to import the tempo map and time signature changes from the DAW to the vst.

I can live with the early limitations of the vst with one exception. With all multi-riffs you must generate the entire song. Can't just generate selected measures. A guitar solo just took almost six and a half minutes to generate 7 tracks. This is on i7 machine with 16 gig memory

So I stand corrected. While it appears the vst generated the entire song. when I drag them into the DAW the selected bars were the only ones that were generated. However, it took forever and the first bar and last bar we're not generated. Complete silence. Is that by design?

Update:
Out of curiosity I selected the bar before and the bar after the eight bar phrase I wanted to regenerate thinking it would skip the first and last bar generating my 8 bar phrase. unfortunately it's skip the first two measures and added extra measures on the end and generated a 16-bar phrase instead of 8 bar. Also took nearly eight minutes to generate 7 8 bar phrases. Well I guess technically 7 16 bar phrases. Obviously something that needs to be fixed

In this video,

At about 8:30 they show selecting and generating just a set of bars. But maybe they are generating the full track and only using the selected ones.

The multiriffs you can generate the entire track or selected bars,
but it will add a one bar pad (empty audio) on each end, this will cause problems, they need an option to add the empty bars from -1 to one bar after the end bar of the riff, this way you just drag it in, no messing around to line it up.
This is how you can do it in Biab when you create multiriffs in it.

I noticed in Realband the riffs are not all the same length so this can cause "interesting" results when generating individual bars.

Reaper or the VST seems to hang with the multiriff generation. I'm only playing around and I know it's early days but I haven't managed to get them to a point where I can drag them into Reaper. I couldn't find the option to generate just a few bars. Of course, reading the manual would help.:-)

I notice it can take quite some time to generate depending on the number of bars. When I loaded an existing song with say 100 bars it takes an age to generate. If you do 8 or so bars not an issue. But I guess I can understand that.

That was my experience

Load that existing song in RealBand and see how long it takes.

Pipeline,

I did test in Realband and it took a fraction of the time to generate the same song and the 8 bar multi riff was almost instantaneous compared to vst.

YES, that's how it should work, it needs fixing to work a lot faster, at the moment I have to go have a sleep while it generates.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
