Well I said I would be back when I was having fun again, apparently I lied.  Build 617 both 32 and 64 freezes as soon as I hit play. Have to Ctl-Alt-Del to close frozen program. I tried RTFS (return to factory...). No joy. Just installed and have now reinstalled the update. I am here to follow your wisdom and guidance  Win 10 i7 DeskTop, 16M Ram. Been successfully running BIAB on this machine along with scads of other music\audio software from the machine setup 18 months ago, until the BIAB 2019 release a month ago. Since then intermittent problems fixed by trial and error and rebooting, reinstalling... until this morning. BIAB is only run in Admin Mode and was running last time 1 week ago prior to the 617 update.

Dan, I don't know how to help with your problems, but I am sure enjoying your running commentary  At least you've maintained your sense of humor.

I'm seeing a few odd things with 617 too Dan. It might just not be you.
One thing that I have noticed that may help. Typically when I do a 2019 update, I tell the update not to add icons to the desktop. I do this because my icons are already there and more importantly, I have "run as Admin" turned on. I'm just lazy and don't want to do the "run as Admin" bit again. BUT....when I do tell it to "Add icons..." I do notice that it also seems to change other parameters that I had previously setup. So not only do I have to go back and do the "Run as Admin ..." thing again but also change other parameters to my likening.
Don't know if this will help but it does seem strange that creating new icons would also change other parameters. There seems to be a default setup that "add desktop icons" invokes.

So when this happens it is generally one of two things - program configurations or drivers. In this case it was the MOTU drivers. They just disappeared. I had to do a complete MOTU driver re-install and all is now good. In the past I have attributed this loss of audio drivers to the constant Win 10 Updates. Other than that, I have never been overly impressed with the robustness of the MOTU drivers. Could BIAB have given me a message that the drivers were missing instead of just freezing up? Or, could I have noticed the numerous other indicators that I had no audio drivers? Just another 30 minutes I will never get back and have no music to show for it...

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.
