I use BiaB 2019 and have downloaded the new patch 633 this morning(as usual when there is a new build...)
To my surprise, the upgrade "means" that I do not have Biab 2019 in the folder in which I want to place it (although BiaB 2019 is there all right...).
Up to now, I had BiaB on an external hard disk (because of its size) plugged into my (Windows 7) computer.
For some days, I have bought a new computer (Windows 10)and plugged the BiaB hard disk into it. Worked all right, but since I now have on the new computer a big internal hard disk, I have copied the wole BiaB file on this hard disk (works all right). The activation number has been copied too (I checked).
Now it seems that I may not install the new upgrade on the internal hard disk or on the external hard disk (see photos included). I have tried to download the update through BiaB itself and it does not work any better Where is the beef? (the problem?) carca Ooops! I thought I would include jpegs photos just like that, but I now need to give an URL which I do not have... We ll do without photos!
Merely copying all of the files from one disk to another won't be adequate to let the installation application know where the files now are.
When you run the installer, it would give you an option of where you want to install to. Make sure you select the location on the drive where you have BiaB now copied to.
Thanks for your prompt reply... OK, I understand the point, but of course, I am NOT leaving the location as it is automatically set by BiaB (c/bb), but change it to the real location on my hard disk (in that case G/music/music/bb). Do you think I should nevertheless reinstall Biab 2019 on my new computer? This new computer (Win 10) has a ssd hard disk with a capacity of (only)around 180GB and a big "normal" hard disk on which I have copied BiaB (which works OK, up to now)). It is therefore not possible for me to have BiaB installed in the C: volume which will be"too small", at least for the complete program and songs... Bernard
It is fine not to have to install in the C: drive.
You do not need to have the program installed in the C:\bb\ location, but the installer needs to know if you changed that.
Let me ask these questions:
1: When you originally installed BiaB using the Installation Application, did you instruct it to install it to your "G:\music\music\" drive and folder? (Yes/No?)
or did you allow it to be installed to the default location (without changing anything) of C:\bb\ ? (Yes/No?)
If you originally allowed the installer to install in C:\bb\ and then you manually moved everything to G:\Music\Music\bb\, the upgrade Installer will still expect that the program and files are still where it originally installed them (C:\bb\).
So when you run the upgrade installer, you need to now adjust the original expected destination to be the location where you have now manually moved everything to.
You know where all of your files now are, just adjust the installed destinations to match.
Please let us know if that's not clear and you need more help.
Q1: No! As I said, I just copied the whole folder from the old to the new computer. This folder contains BiaB but other programs as well, like Forte or others related to Biab... Q2: errr! just had the whole thing copied on my new hard disk, in that case G/(hard disk)Music/Music...
Of course, I give this path, down to the bb folder, to the updater. But this guy "pretends" there is no bb2019 in that very folder (cheeky!). Do I miss somehow a "registration" in the Win 10 system of my new computer? Thanks for your patience! carca
It was always recommended by PG to always install to C/bb and not to any sub folders. I may be out of touch on this maybe that's changed. Try installing to c/bb and see if you get better results.

Well I guess this may be possible. The Installer looks where it installed 'last time' and if the locations don't match, it gives a message.
Seeing that you moved / copied files to your new drive manually before attempting to upgrade, I think the PG Music support people will be the best to get you going.
But try this first: Run the installer and let it use default locations which is C:\bb\. If it is successful, open the C:\bb\ folder and copy everything from it and paste it into the location where BiaB is moved to on your G: drive, (presumably G:\Music\Music\bb\ ?) Find where bbw.exe is on the G drive and copy to that same location.
What you have done is quite unorthodox, so there is a bit of sorting out to do. The PG Music Support people might be the best still to get you cleaned up.
If it was me I would delete everything about Biab on your new computer. Plug in the external drive and run the installer to the default locations. You will not have any trouble after that. Although copy and paste can work sometimes under certain circumstances this is not one of them. So like I said delete everything on the new computer start fresh by installing from the external hard drive to the default location c/bb.
On the base of our exchange, I have now made a "proper" installation of BiaB 2019 on my new computer. I have set it to the location where BiaB already was (my internal hard disk)since I have not enough room for the complete program under C/ and it works! I have now been able to install the update 633. I suppose that, by a proper installation, some registrations files are set into the computer... Thanks for all good advices, it is good to be helped when nothing works! Carca

Hi Carca, thanks for letting us know that you resolved the issue. Yes, the Installer will only know where it installed previously, that's why I mentioned originally: "Merely copying all of the files from one disk to another won't be adequate to let the installation application know where the files now are."
