Does anybody know how to use 4 or 5 virtual instrument plugins without creating a loud white noise and after opening BIAB does not make any sounds.

I am using a MIDI style and I wanted to improve the String1 and String2 sounds with sounds from Cinematic Studio Strings (via KONTAKT 6) and a beautiful string patch from Ominisphere for String2. I also had added a Piano sound from the plugin Keyscape. I also had a plugin for improved piano on the THRU track.

My Windows 10 64-bit computer has 96GB of RAM and 2 processors and about 32 threads (16 threads per CPU).

I am using a Focusrite Clarett 8Pre-USB and am using the Focusrite ASIO in BIAB. I have BIAB Audiophile Edition for 2021

Any suggestions or fixes?

Increasing your ASIO buffer size can help with this. Can you go to Options > Preferences > Audio, then click the Audio Drivers button below where it says ASIO followed by ASIO Driver's Control Panel? See if your sound card has an option to control buffer size, and if so try increasing it.

Peter, perhaps I'm not understanding what you're trying to do but it sounds like you want to use 3 or more VSTi synths on various tracks in BIAB at the same time. Is this right?

As far as I know, BIAB can only handle one VSTi at a time. Back in 2017, a former user, by the name of Paul Warren, created a bit of software that would allow BIAB to use more than one VSTi at the same time. It could even allow the use of a combination of VSTI's and multiple hard synths all at the same time on a track by track basis. Unfortunately, it was 32 bit only and Paul does not have the required software to convert this to 64 bit.

I had very good success in using his MidiRedirector but like I said it was 32 bit only and now I'm using the 64 bit version of BIAB these days.

If you would like to give his 32 bit application a try, you can download it for free here:

BIAB can handle as many VSTi's as it has channels. I've got 5 of them in this song (well, technically 3 VSTi's and 2 DXi's, but still).

Thank you for your efforts to help me. I have increased my buffer size from 128 to 256. I will see if this fixes the problem. I hope latency will not become an issue.

Thanks for that explanation Simon. I didn't realize this change.

One thing that the Midi Redirector did allow me to do was to use multiple hard synths at the same time. I don't think that BIAB can do this yet....or can it? Back to the lab!

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
