I purchased BIAB for mac 2020 on the hard drive. I then copied all the files over to another 2TB hard drive and run the program from that. When I start up BIAB I get a message that it's ready to install build 407. However I get the message it won't install because it does not think I have the program installed. If you look at the first attachment you can see that BIAB recognizes the hard drive and directories I have BIAB located (same as on the original hard drive). The second attachment shows that BIAB says I don't have the program installed.
For the update to work, do I actually need to "install" BIAB on my second hard drive rather than just copy the files, even though it functions just fine or is there some other issue?
My guess the program is not recognizing the storage drive location by the drive letter the storage drive is presently assigned. That is a fairly common issue on the Windows operating system. The operating system may assign an external hard drive a different drive letter, especially when the drive is plugged into a different USB port.
Try copying the update to the storage drive and running the update from the storage drive. When it asks you to verify the directory locations then make sure the drive letter and location is correct.
Thanks for the reply. I tried running it directly from the hard drive and still got the same message. If I were running it from the original hard drive, I would think BIAB would be able to update to that. I'll try the installation as if my 2TB drive was the original hard drive and see what happens. I could just be because I didn't do an "install" some file didn't get updated correctly. I'll post back with my results in case someone else has the same issue.
Nope. It didn't work. I suspect because the hard drive is labeled Band-in-a-Box UltraPAK and the files are located directly under that, that it isn't recognizing my directory structure, even though my directory is called Band-in-a-Box UltraPAK. Unusual that the programmers wouldn't use relative paths if this is the case; which it may not be. I'll keep trying different things. Hopefully someone will have a solution.
Ok, I renamed my hard drive to Band-in-a-Box UltraPAK and copied all the files directly to it just like the original hard drive. I then ran the update and BIAB was updated.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.
Update your Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows® Today!
Update your Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows for free with build 1111!
With this update, there's more control when saving images from the Print Preview window, we've added defaults to the MultiPicker for sorting and font size, updated printing options, updated RealTracks and other content, and addressed user-reported issues with the StylePicker, MIDI Soloists, key signature changes, and more!
A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."
"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."
"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
