Hello all,

I am using the Tyros 4 with the PT and because of the vast voices on the T4, what I select on PT track instrument do not correspond with what I hear from the T4. For example if I selected patch #49 (strings)on PT menu then I ended up hearing guitar instead on the T4. Any ideas on how to make my request on PT responds correctly on the T4? Also when I select other channels like 4 or 5, then I cannot hear any sounds at all from the T4. I am hoping someone who uses the Tyros with PT can help me on this. Thanks in advance. DP

Try going here -
http://www.pgmusic.com/support_miscellaneous.htm

Find the Tyros patch map, and try using that.

Another option is to set the Tyros on GM mode so it responds as expected.

Understanding the patch mapping is the key either way.

Hi. I am the author of the Tyros 4 patch. I works superbly unless you try to invoke MEGA sounds which are special, multichannel sound and cannot be really played - they must be programmed.

Hello,

Thank you for your work. Please tell me if this is done correctly in order for PT to recognize T4 patches. I downloaded the file on to the desktop, drag it into PT folder and saved as patches.ini in both Real Band and PT. Anything else needs to be done? I am still trying to get the PT to work with my Pianoteq plug in and once this is solved, I will deal with the T4 issues. I appreciate your help. Thanks DP

I see you got the other problem solved.

Depends, did you replace the original, or save the new one as a 'copy'. For it to work it must be the file named "Patches.INI" in your working folder.

If needed, rename the old one to something else before renaming the new one to the correct name.

Then you can use your Patches dialogue to make PT send the patch you want.

I dragged the downloaded tyros file into the RB/PT folders and then rename it as "patches.ini". When asked if I want to replace with existing file, I select yes. Unfortunately I did not save the original patches.ini. Luckily I have the CD that I can reinstall if needed. I am starting the PT to see if I can select the "piano/string" patch on the T4. So far, I can select GM sounds on PT menu and played correctly on the T4. Dai

Greetings,

OK, I finally got the Tyros to appear on the Patch List. However the quality of play back is not the same as on the Tyros 4. For example, the piano/strings when played on T4 is very realistic but after playing back from PT, it appears a different patch was used for piano and another one for the strings. Also I cannot locate many of the T4 patches under Tyros patch list. Perhaps the program was written for the earlier Tyros version? DP

Hi all,

I have another problem with recording from T4 into PT. I have accompaniment track recorded into the T4 as song but I cannot get it to be recorded into PT where I can extract channels to tracks. When I hit record and then hit play on T4, no data is going in the PT. Any help is appreciated. Thanks Dai

Hi Dai.

I don't have the Tyros 4, so I'm just going to have to talk in general terms.

Most workstations like the Tyros have a setting to turn the accompaniment output on or off. It's usually under MIDI settings. Check the Tyros manual to see if this is the case.

The other thing to watch is that you'll want the accompaniment in sync with the PT clock. The way to do this is to go to OPTIONS - SYNC SOURCE and set it to MIDI. Now when you hit record, PT will wait until you hit play on the Tyros and then record in sync. Just make sure you have the tempo set the same on PT and the Tyros. Once you've made the recording, switch the sync back to internal.

Hi ROG,

I will try what you suggested. Now, how do I get the PT to play back BOTH sounds from T4 and my VSTi Pianoteq? On the MIDI driver menu, if I check the box that route all midi signals to default synth then I either get T4 or Pianoteq sounds but not both. I am using the Pianoteq as the main instrument and orchestration from T4. Thanks Dai

Hi Dai.

Select the Tyros as the MIDI output driver, but don't check the box to re-route MIDI output to the dafault synth. This should send all the MIDI data to the Tyros.

It should still allow playback of any VSTi instruments as long as they are loaded into an individual track and assigned a MIDI channel and port.

You will probably need to turn off any MIDI channel on the Tyros which is also being used for a VSTi, or both will play.

Hope this helps.

If the Tracks MIDI is going out a different Port to a VSTi, it shouldn't get to the T4

Using ROG's suggested setup;
On a Track you want to send to PianoTeq -
Right-click the Track and select Port, then pick one above 17. These are reserved for VSTi's; Ports 17 - 32.

Then assign a synth to that Port using the top most of the four FX Slots.
The top one will be for VSTi, and the next three for VST effects if the Track is a MIDI track.

Hi rharv.

I wasn't sure about the signal going to the Tyros. I thought it might transmit all midi data including that going to the VSTi. Thanks for clearing that up.

It all starts at the Track. It gets sent either to the default port or an assigned one. If you don't have the 'Reroute All MIDI' check box enabled that is.

Tyros styles and songs are not MIDI. They are a special format. The simplest way to get the midi version is to SAVE a recorded song to a USB stick.

I used to own a couple of Yamaha Keyboards at one time and found that the Midi output from th Synth could be recorded to the then in built floppy disc for transfer to my DAW. Then I changed the Yamaha file extension to .mid which enabled me to open the file in PowerTracks.

Greetings,

I am now able to play a recorded song and recorded by PT by going into the Tyros Midi setting and change the Midi output to A. I still do not understand the connection logic here but at least I am making some progress. I have two main issues here:

First is that when playing back after extract channels to track, the patches are completely wrong. I understand is that you have to find out the actual patches used in the style then assign each channel with the actual patch in order to have it sounded right? The problem is that the newly installed patch.ini does not have all the Tyros 4 sounds. That means you will not get the same version as the original?

Second, upon playing back from PT, some passages have "hiccups" like when going from one measure to another say from C to G chord. At the transition, a slight delay is heard like the drummer hesitated for a fraction of a second then strikes his high hat. This was not heard or at least BARELY noticeable from the original. I have tried quantize within PT to no avail. On this issues, the Yamaha PSR1000 was used. I will have to get a USB/MIDI drive since it does not have USB. Save the file then open it in PT. Perhaps this way will eliminate some data errors with the recording method that accounts for the hiccups?

I eagerly await your replies. Thanks Dai

Make sure you look through the patch list thoroughly. Many of the voices will not be grouped the way you might expect (at least, that's true on the Tyros I patch list).

To anyone that might be able to help me: When I select a rhythm style and activate it with ACMP I am able to change chords and corresponding musical tones, but the bass line stays in the key of C and will not change. Thus, I'm unable to play in any key, not even C as it's stuck on the C note. Help!!
