Been making up drum parts in PT. The drum grid is handy but it's only one bar and it's hard to forumalate a four bar sequence with it. I save it to the track and listen back, but a four bar grid would be much better.

Wondering if there's another program that would show you a four bar grid, and save what you put in to MIDI.

Hope that makes some sense.

this might be a good item for the wish list.

I seem to recall that FLStudio has an "export to midi" feature if you have a paid-for copy (I think it's disabled on the free version). Basically FLStudio is a big drum grid.

I spent quite a bit of time a few years ago looking for the same thing, and even tried to write one in Visual Basic. (There is code available on VB forums for a drum grid, but it does not save to the MIDI format)

If anybody finds such a product, I'd like to know about it too.

Hi rubberball103,

Go to http://www.hitsquad.com/smm/
And click on drums – percussion. I clicked on free-Windows and came up with a number of free drum editors (sequencers) in which the drums tracks could be saved as midi files. You could also click on either demo, shareware or paid to see if you can purchase something that more fits your needs.

Hitsquad.com is always my first stopping point when I’m looking for something.

I hope this helps.

Good luck.

Me, it's not about how many times you fail, it's about how many times you get back up.
Cop, that's not how field sobriety tests work.

My personal fav drum sotware is Jamstix, sadly it does not fully work wih PG software, you can use it as a drum machine, but the jam features need deeper VSTi implimentation. I love it due to the full features and the awesome support.

for that matter you can use the free version of FLStudio to create a drum part and then export it to audio and bring it in directly to your project... but that won't help you make styles.

I would recommend using "Fruity Loops" because you can create drum loops with as many bars as you like.In addition to your drum track you can record audio tracks and it has lots of cool synth and effect plug ins. It also has excellent mixing capabilities.I use it on a regular basis and love it.

for those who may not have messed with BIABs drum grid

in RB it is accessed as follows:
ACTION > DRUM GRID EDITOR

and in BIAB it is built into the style maker
STYLES > STYLEMAKER > NEW-MAKE A NEW STYLE >(give it a name) > DRUM GRID EDITOR
(it's the 6th button from the left, looks like a circle with cross-hatch design on it.)

You can incorporate your custom drum beat directly into a style! How cool is that??

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
