Hi there,

I've been using Realband as a producing and arranging tool for years (one example I can share here: if you want to, search for the song "bayou child" by "eastwood" on spotify. some of it is realband, some not wink )

but I never got a grip on waltz realtracks. So far I've ignored this and just didn't use realband when recording songs.

I now definitely have to use it shortly, since I do have a song to produce and no musicians at hand.

maybe somebody can help me with this?

in this case we have a very very simple chord progression, each chord being played for a full 4 bars. for testing reasons currently I only even use one chord on the first beat, same results...

whenever I set the Meter to 3/4 and use a waltz realtrack (#3091 for example) the results are unusable. basically I get only "starting" samples without the sample ever just being fully played (sounding like bad holds all the time). same if I go 6/8 meter.

if I change the meter to 4/4 and use the same realtrack, I at least get fully played well sounding samples. but since the meters do not really match up, I can't believe that this is how it's supposed to work. Also with this method chord changes would not correspond to the time signature, so this can't be right, can it?

I hope you understand my problems. Thanks in advance for every help here.

Daniel,

Your explanation reads as though you are using RealTracks designed for 4/4 time signatures. You will obtain better results using RealTracks that are designed 3/4 time signature.

3/4 RealTracks are identified in their titles with either "34" or "Waltz" in the title. See the example screen shot below.

I experimented a bit with his mentioned realtrack (#3091)
In 3/4 it is just wrong here
If I try it in 4/4, it follows the tempo but the '1' is off for three bars (as expected since 3/4 and 4/4 eventually line up every few measures).
For instance 1 lines up at bar 2,5,8,11,& 14

To me this particular RT is just not right.
Maybe the markers were interpreted for 4/4 instead of 3/4 ..
I'd consider this a specific RT issue with #3091 that should get fixed

To OP; this is not how it is supposed to work

ddazrael,

My apology for not providing a better response in my first post.

Also, I forgot to tell you welcome to the forum and to RealBand in my earlier post.

For anyone reading this thread, when you find an issue with a RealTrack you can always notify PG Music by sending an email to "support@pgmusic.com".

It helps to create a sgu file that demonstrates the issue. Freeze the tracks and attach the sgu file to your email. Describe the issue in the email.

rharv,

As you stated above, RealTrack #3091, Piano, Acoustic, Rhythm FolkyWaltzMike Ev 150 should work in a waltz. PG Music was notified of this thread.

Hi there,

first of all: thanks for your answers. It actually seems that I was getting stuck trying to get a single RT I liked to work.

I've tried around a little more and indeed there are RT's that work just fine with a 3/4 time signature setting.

so 1702, 1108, 1035 and 867 seem to work just right. Some of the swing feel RT's only seem to work properly if the check at "song has straight feel" in the song settings is not ticked, but that's to be expected.

But I've also found several more that I can't seem to get to work:

3671, 2055 and 3652 for example do not seem to work properly with a 3/4 time signature.

1300 only generates the first bar for me for some reason, no matter what I try... very strange one

so far it's around 50/50 working in 3/4. So at least for me it's not just the odd one out, there seem to be a lot of RTs not working how they should.

I didn't have time this week to check more, but since I have to do this project til xmas anyways and I do not yet know how I want it to sound, I will probably be checking out a lot of other 3/4 RTs in the next weeks and keep posting here.

I do also suspect that the RTs not working are internally marked as 4/4 or something like that, because all of them sound better on a 4/4 time signature.

all the best

so I've played around some more. very mixed bag. soundwise. I do get the feeling that many, if not most, of the waltz tracks have very limited audio material to work with and therefor create a lot of very unnatural sounding tracks with a lot of repetition. At least that would explain quite a lot of what I'm getting.

one thing that really sticks out though: every single "solist" or "background" waltz track will only generate the very first bar when the time signature is set to 3/4.

they all render correctly when it's set to 4/4, but then again, that can't be how this is meant to work, can it?

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
