Would someone verify this and/or help me with this problem. Every time I try to work with RB I end up so frustrated that I quit trying.

I took a MIDI 5/4 style, actually both of them, and tried to open them in RB or import them into RB. I set the RB's time signature and tempo to the BiaB style, note that I started the song in BiaB.
Every time RB sets the time signature back to 4/4. The measures and timing line up in 4/4 but not in 5/4.

So if someone would verify this or show me how to achieve it I would be very grateful.

Thanx

While RealBand will let you work in 5/4, there actually are no real 5/4 BIAB styles (and the ones there are MIDI only, if I recall correctly). They are implemented in 4/4, but have the four beats subdivided into 5 equal time divisions, so when you play it back, it sounds like 5/4, but it's really just 4/4 with each note a little more ahead of the beat.

I suspect that is the problem with selecting even a 5/4 style.

Yes. exactly as John said.

When these styles were created BiaB could only do 2/4, 3/4, and 4/4
so to make a 5/4 style they tinkered with making the 4/4 tempo/time feel like 5/4 .. which to me was a complete disaster.
If you take the tempo at 4/4, and establish that time span, they made 5/4 fit the same time. In other words, only the '1' is on the click.
This may be why there are only a couple of them made.

I can't 'see' 4/4 and hear 5/4 .
So I don't try to use a BiaB 5/4 style in RB, it makes my head esplode.

Instead experiment with the wealth of 3/4 and 4/4 styles .. Set RB to 5/4 and generate from the normal tracks.
You'll need to experiment but you'll get better results.

I urge you to take a few minutes and look at the link below. It should load the correct RT wav files and then you can see how they worked in RB.
You should also be able to regenerate stuff in 7/4 using this file.
This was a collaboration song and other users had no trouble regenerating, recording, and even changing chords for regeneration (then sending back to me)

These RTs were designed for 4/4 but worked in 7/4

Rharv, (and others), thanx so much for the explanation. I'm the same way in that I want to see 5/4, 6/8, 7/4, etc, time signatures in their native format. Looking at 4 beats per measure and hearing 5 blows my mind also.

I'll have to do some experimenting with 4/4 styles in 5/4 time. Thanx for that tip.

PS - that 7/4 song is awesome!

As you can see in the SEQ file the bass, drums, keys, and rhythm guitar are all generated.
(basic song)
After that we just laid the frosting on (lead guitar, horns, etc ..)
then, because we could regenerate, we went back and changed some cords in certain sections and regenerated and kept moving on adding stuff.
Worked a treat in RB.
I don't think we could have done this in BiaB at the time.

rharv, I am excited. I set RB to 5/4 and tried a couple of 4/4 styles and all went well. This is a game changer for me! I'm still getting a ton of error messages in RB but I just click them off and all is well. Weird. Now I have to try to export these songs as mid files and load them into my DAW. I have a lot more experience with my DAW then RB.

I saved a 5/4 song from RB as a mid file, set my DAW to match the time signature and tempo, imported the mid file, and all went perfectly.

This is a game changer for me.

Thanx again!

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
