This applies to both softwares.

When importing an existing file, like an MP3, it would be great if the tempo could be analyzed and adjusted so the downbeats are on the 1 like they should be. If a song happens to be at 122.38 it is SO difficult to try and line the song up on the 1. So if there is any cutting and pasting needed there's no way to know where to cut and paste!

I am working on a song that my BPN analyzer says it is at 121.7, so I set the tempo in Real Band at 121.7, imported the track, and the beats start drifting off the 1 right away. It is extremely subtle, but 10 ticks here and 10 ticks there, by bar 40 it'd off by 400 ticks. This has been horribly awkward as I try to cut a verse out of this song.

Anybody have any ideas how I can fix that timing problem?

I am using the new 1040XTRAEZ form this year. It has just 2 lines.

I have two ideas.

In RB, create a manual click track and then use the Edit Command to align the music to the click track. I've attached screenshots from RealBand illustrating the menus.

A second choice is to do the same in BIAB with the ACW and then equalize to align the bars.

I have never actually used the ACW beyond testing it for accuracy because I can recognize what the chords are when I hear a song.

I just tested the ACW with this song and again it wasn't even close to correct.

Charlie I don't know what "create a manual a click track" actually means. Is that nothing more than ticking that bar that says "Show click track bar and beat lines", because that has never been clicked off in years. If that's the case then that step is done. But when I say "Align to click track" it asks me what track is the click track, and there is no click track. So this is maybe something I have never done and don't know what creating a click track is short of tapping in beats on a keyboard. When I try "align to click track": I tried making the designated track it asks for the track that has the drums and it said there were no click events on the track.

A user can manually set a very accurate click Track (Tempo Map) that RealBand tracks will follow. It can be set by either bars or beats.

Open the Help file and search for Edit: Track-Align music to click track

Here's a screenshot of the Help full tutorial.

"I just tested the ACW with this song and again it wasn't even close to correct."
Are you talking the chords weren't correct or the tempo mapping wasn't correct.
It should tempo map the file, it will ask you set bar 1 then you can also drag the bar lines to sync if there are out
You can delete the chords after and put your own chords in.

The chords. What ACW gave me was 3 semitones above what key the song is in.

And trying to create a click track gave me an empty track, and caused an error message when I tried to save the song.

I have NEVER had this big of a problem with a song. I started with opening a MIDI file into BIAB to get a chord chart, then brought the MGX file into Real Band, generated it in a style I chose, and saved. I then generated a better Real Drums track. From that moment I was not able to save the song. I had to save that drum track out to WAV, close the program, reload the SEQ file, import those drums as a WAV, and then I could save it. The original song was in F# minor (so the key shows up as A, which I expected). That is too high for me to sing it. I moved it down to G, so it would be in Em. Still too high. Moved it down to F so it would be in Dm. Finally got to a key I could sing.

I rendered it out to a WAV file. Then opened up my BPM analyzer tool. The song shows to be at 123.07. I opened he original song and tried to adjust the tempo to 123.07 so the downbeats would line up. That is where this all started. The "1" isn't on the "1", so when I want to change some things in the arrangement I can't cut and paste accurately.

So to the original wish list request, I would like Real Band to automatically locate beat 1 of the measures and adjust itself so the beat mapping is automatically correct and I don't have to try 74 steps to line up a stupid song.

I HATE workarounds. I use software to make life easier, not harder. I am now not going to be able to do this song for Herbstock because I don't want a 4 minute song to be a full time job, when steps either don't work or are so poorly defined that I can't do them. "Make a click track" required me to go dig through the manual to find out how to do that. When I finally did find to click the arrow next to record and select "click track", exactly what the manual says, it didn't work. It gave me an empty track, and now I am back to getting error messages when I try to save it.

I'm done with this. I just won't do the song. And that's okay. I should be writing stuff anyway instead of doing covers.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
