I am running OS Catalina, I have BIAB 2019 Audiophile. I am trying to arrange a jazz backing track and trying out many of the swing styles, When I use the "Pushes" - "Push by 1/8" in the Chord Options, I am attempting to get the whole rhythm section (bass, drum and piano to push and hit together but the result is not what I expected. The drum is not pushing and the bass is unpredictable. Also, the instruments that do push do so with little or no swing. Overall the pushes are all out of time and groove. So far I have not found one swing style without this glitch.

Any fix?

Is anybody else having this issue?

Hello,

For the Drums: Make sure you have build 420 - I believe it should correct for this.

If not, here is a solution:

Go into the Drums folder in Explorer, find the text file for the specific Drum style and tempo that you're using, and make sure that "pushamount8" is set to 40 for Swing8 feel drums or 60 for Swing16 feel drums. Save the file and re-load and generate the song.

I am not sure why any other instruments like the bass would be off. It would be good if you could attach a 'frozen' BIAB song file that demonstrates this. You can attach a file to a forum post using the File Manager

I currently have build (312). I went to the PGmusic website to upgrade to build (420). It says build 420 is available for Band-in-a-box 2020. I currently am running Version 2019 for mac.
Question: Is build (420) compatible with 2019 if I download it?

Swingfeel,

From the support page, it looks to me like Build 325 from August of 2020 is the most current version for BIAB 2019 for Mac. You won't be able to install an update for the 2020 version if you're running the 2019 version.

Since I can't download build 420 (I have 2019) I downloaded the latest build (325) Next, I looked for Explorer to go into the drum folder but can't find "explorer". I found a Drums folder in BIAB. Is that what I am supposed to open? Also, I am working with style "M_JPLMSW.STY Jazz Pollwinners Medium Swing" I don't see that listed in the drums folder. Am I even close to where I am supposed to be looking?

Right - build 325 is the latest build for 2019.

Sorry, I meant to say "Finder", not "Explorer" - that's a Windows thing.

M_JPLMSW.STY uses JazzLewisSwing^01 for the Drums part - you can see that by looking at the Mixer. "JazzLewisSwing^ is the main RealDrums style, and the "01..." part tells you that it is variation one. The caret (^) symbol tells you that this RD style has multiple variations.

If you look in the Drums folder, you will find JazzLewisSwing^ folder - this is the main folder for JazzLewisSwing drums. Open this folder, and you'll see additional subfolders for each of the variations... ^01 through ^06. Each of those subfolders has different text files for the various tempos that have a dedicated recording. This is a swing8th style. One way to tell is from the RealDrums Picker. Also, swing 16th styles tend to have Sw16 in the name. If you open up one of the text files, the parameter that needs to be changed is pushamount8, which should be 40. This was an error in some of the text files.

This turns out to be a somewhat complicated one to fix since it has multiple tempos and variations. Many would just have one text file. Here are the fixed files. Copy/Merge then into the JazzLewisSwing^ folder.

I opened up the drums folder to look for the JazzLewisSwing folder. I looked high and low but could not find a folder with the name JazzLewisSwing. The closest name that is listed was JazzRideLewis and JazzWaltzLewis. Am I looking in the right place?

I figured I would wait 'till after the holidays to see if anyone has figured out why BIAB can't push the drums in a musical way or with proper timing.

Is anybody there?

Sorry, I missed your message. It's not JazzLewisSwing, it's "JazzSwingLewis^". That's where the files in the zip go...

hello,
does this change have to be done for all files for "drums push etc" to work ?
Regarding the download modification, do you have to delete the old one and replace it, otherwise why merge?
thank you so much

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
