What I would like to know, since I've just begun exploring these sounds, is: does Kontakt 6 ever go on sale? It's $399. If you already have this, or other expansions, then the sale above offers 50% off the updates. But if you don't have it, it seems there is only the fixed retail price. True?

Also, it appears that for another $200, you can get (at retail) Komplete 13 regular, which includes Kontakt 6 and a bunch of sounds. Does THAT ever go on sale?

Thanks for any tips.

Thanksgiving to Christmas is a big time for sales but they can literally pop up anytime. The makers of Ozone and Kontakt are now +++ "sister companies" +++ in a resource and financial sharing agreement so the whole flow of sales is likely to be disrupted.

I have a good bit of Native Instruments stuff and I think they make really good products. I don't remember buying anything on sale. They send me notifications of sales at times but I just never have payed any attention to the ads.

But..Berlin's beloved audio brand Native Instruments is joining in on Black Friday festivities with its Cyber Season sale. The offer sees a 50 per cent discount across more than 190 products in its catalogue, from flagship software to useful Expansions

This is a quoit from https://www.musictech.net/news/native-instruments-half-price-black-friday/

written in 2020.

Just reading what others have said on other forums...
"
Don't expect the brand new Komplete 13 to go on sale this holiday/Black Friday shopping season. It's just too soon. I remember waiting for Komplete 12 to go on sale shortly after release during it's first Black Friday period and it never happened. I did online research and asked around, people said it never happens and wont get a discount until the following years Summer sale (mid June). Which ended up being exactly true, and that's when i got into the whole NI Komplete ecosystem.

So now I'm looking at the Komplete 13 Ultimate upgrade cost as $399 and the Ultimate Collector's Edition at $599. Next Summer those upgrades will probably be $199 and $299. I'm waiting

Perhaps someone will answer Matt who knows more than me as to the value of Komplete at any price.

Billy

Yes in the past both have gone on sale for half price. That's how I always purchase Kontakt updates.

Matt, Native Instruments has a forum. Most likely a good place to look around. https://www.native-instruments.com/forum/threads/so-how-often-to-things-go-on-sale.428539/

Matt,
I seen earlier discussion....
Kontakt is a great tool, but go with Komplete, if funds allow.

Three paths that were not mentioned.

1) You can buy a Komplete Select (that does not include Kontakt) for about 200 and upgrade to standard, at 1/2 price, which would have Kontakt.

2) most of their midi controllers keyboards, even used(!!) come with fully transferable Komplete Select (You own controller = you own Select) Also, I was told by NI tech that... if you sell, break or whatever do with controller, you get to keep software, IF you upgraded select to standard!

3) You can buy Komplete pre-owned at places like KVR (got to do research on seller, if they are established and have record of selling items) Transfer process is nearly instant.

No. As I recall, it's been on sale for half-price two or three times in the past twelve months. Also, you can get it as an upgrade ~$140 if you own a qualifying Kontakt Player library, some of which are inexpensive and a few are free, like Embertone's Arcane, Evolution Series' World Colors Clar-Duduk, ProjectSAM's The Free Orchestra, and a few more from Soniccouture:

https://www.evolutionseries.com/product/world-colors-clar-duduk/

https://projectsam.com/libraries/the-free-orchestra/

https://www.soniccouture.com/en/free-stuff/

I'm not sure how the Kontakt Player instruments in the free Komplete Start package apply (Play Series Selection, Kinetic Treats, etc.) but one would think . . .

Right now, Kontakt is half price at $199.00. This is without my logging in to see any discounts or upgrades to which I am otherwise entitled.

Komplete Catalog page

That said, Komplete @ $599 is a very good deal but you can get it for less. Although Komplete Select does not include Kontakt, it is $199 — Upgrade to Komplete 13 for another $199 and get Kontakt that way.

Komplete Upgrade from Select at Sweetwater.

I'm posting Sweetwater links because once I log into my account, I can't see any other upgrades besides my own.

NI runs these 50% twice per year with an exception: When there's a major upgrade (12 to 13 etc.) They often skip a year or two so you can't count on them occurring regularly.

I eventually wound up with KOMPLETE 13 ULTIMATE COLLECTOR'S EDITION for the expanded orchestra libraries. It took a few years when I missed the 50% sale from Komplete 12 for the next one to come along so I didn't get it till last fall.

Since I'm cheap, I just bought SampleTank 4 for $99 this afternoon. Even though I have ST3 already, that isn't an upgrade price, that's the regular sale price for everybody as of now. That's a no brainer to me. Here is a very well done comparison (all playing, no talking) between the two and each patch is done as a blind test, he doesn't say which is which until the second one is almost over. I was shocked at how close they are considering how many people really like Kontakt and how much it costs. Tons of instruments with 6,000 patches with ST4.

Have to agree Bob, very interesting comparison. I have both packages but have to admit I use ST4 more. It just seems a bit more intuitive and easier to set up to me.

Yes they do sell it at discounted prices but you have to be watching and waiting for it. I managed to snag my copy way back in the day on sale at 50% off if I remember correctly. It's expensive stuff but it's professional quality and does a superb job.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
