While succumbing to prostate cancer, the Hospice Nurse encouraged me to continue playing my music for Fred. He passed peacefully while listening.

Hi Don,

This is one heck of a toe tapper! It's a great listen. I'm pretty sure Fred would have enjoyed all the music that you brought to your shared room.

I offer my condolences to you on your loss.

One of the dangers of being male is prostate cancer. Generally it's a slow growing cancer and many men die of old age long before the cancer creates any issue. Fortunately these days, if the aggressive forms of the cancer are caught it time, they can be attended to.

Nearly two years ago, I was diagnosed with aggressive prostate cancer that had a Gleeson Score of 9 (as far as I know, the index only goes to 10). I had no symptoms at all and even my PSA count only indicated a 1 in 4 chance of my having the cancer. I completely understand how easy it would have been for Fred not to have his cancer picked up in time.

I strongly encourage all guys who read this, and who have not been tested for prostate cancer recently, to go and get it done. There's a ton of joy in catching this cancer in its early development. If the prostate is removed before there is significant damage to the urethra or bladder, the outcome is usually excellent.

Thanks for posting the song! I really enjoyed the energy you brought to my excited feet smile

All the best,
Noel

I've lost many musician friends to prostate cancer including several BIABers who had inspired many of us to persevere in our musical journey with this amazing software. Interestingly, they were always the first to toss the lifeline to us fledglings.

As breast cancer is to our female friends, prostate cancer is to us males.

My dear friend of 60 years, Mike Auldrige lost his long and painful battle with prostate cancer a few years ago. Upon learning that BIABer, Howard Tate was terminal, Mike sent him several unreleased tracks that Howard treasured until his death. Mike's love and compassion is how I will always remember him.

Here's Mike stealing an extra Dobro break:

Nina selected two of my BIAB tunes for 'future projects.'

Nina Gerber, guitarist for the late Folk singer-songwriter Kate Wolf (qv) was amazed that I recognized Mike's Dobro on this song of Kate's.

There is something very unique and recognizable about Mike's style that I will not soon forget.

R.I.P., my friend.

Don

My condolences on Fred's passing, friends are hard keep as we get older and and even harder to come by.

I obviously didn't know Fred but assume he like up-beat picken n' grinen tunes - if so I know he would have loved that tune!

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
