We just received notification that seven more of our tunes have been licensed via Songtradr for "overhead radio." This makes a total of 33 songs licensed for that usage with most being to Mood Media. Mood Media is the biggest provider world wide of overhead music and provides music to restaurants, bars, etc., in 143 countries. There's not a lot of money involved but as I've mentioned here before it does offers us some degree of confidence and validation (beyond family and friends smile ) that our music has something to offer.

And to quote myself from the last time we posted about success, "braggadocio? zero intention." Just a big shoutout to PG Music from us! And, of course, to our great collaborator friends.

Good things for you there. You lost me at "not a lot of money involved". Seems like a lot of hassle and effort for not a lot of money.

I am using the new 1040XTRAEZ form this year. It has just 2 lines.

1. How much did you make in 2023?
2. Send it to us.

Zero hassle. They are all songs we created for fun and to post on the User Showcase here. It takes but a few minutes to upload to Songtradr and they handle it all from there. When they post an opportunity you submit your song of choice. If accepted they handle all the billing and add the income to your account sans their small percentage. They have a great business model. Were it a hassle we’d never get involved. And “not much money” is relative smile And should you get one of the big advert/film placements through them then the cash is serious. And it costs only a few bucks a month to be a member. Whenever we finish a song we upload it to SoundCloud for posting here and to Songtradr. After that when an appropriate opportunity is posted by ST it takes literally five minutes to submit up to five songs. And all the deals are non-exclusive. Fun actually.

Congrats.

I do a similar thing with my photographs. I upload them to AdobeStock and Shutterstock.

I'm not making a killing, but I have the shots anyway, it doesn't cost anything to upload them or to be a member, and anything I sell is like applause for a song well done.

So how much is the monthly fee for Songtradr?

I might be interested.

This explains the two plans...a pro plan and a free plan. The pro plan is but five bucks a month and include free single and album distribution to all the major platforms.

BTW, I've been a bit of a shutterbug for 50 years and had some success with music mag placement decades ago. I've been scanning a LOT of negs lately ... I oughta submit some. I use both of those services when I need a photo for a production.

Anytime you go into a restaurant or any business and hear music playing the rights are typically leased from "over head" music companies. The speakers are over your head smile Years ago it was called "elevator music" and provided by Muzak. It's gone way beyond that nowadays. Mood Media actually owns Muzak now. They newer model is providing very genre specific music. For example a club might want blues, or classic rock or EDM, etc.

My nightmare is to hear my songs as elevator music. I have, however, been heard while on hold with Verizon. What’s that called?

Now that's cool. I'd like to hear you when on hold. My experience of late on hold has been music that makes me bail.

I'm waiting to hear us in Kroger - they use Mood Media smile

That is so very cool. Congrats of the job well done. All of your music is top quality so it's not a surprise that it's being signed.

I have wished for a lot of things but Kroger, that one really never crossed my mine...lol I need to put that one on my bucket list...lol Man you know you have made it when you hear yourself on the overhead in Kroger...lol

I would pay the bill to have Matt be the phone hold music at the Miami VA.

Yes Bud but I hear you have a PhD so you are required to keep up with the latest. Continuing education I think it is called...lol 3 Feb 1946 so I guess we are not too far apart.

Well, yes I know what overhead is and I have not seen the term Muzak for some time. I was not aware who bought them out.

"Elevator music" is what overhead use to be called for sure. It is also commonly used by musicians I know who want to give you a hard time about music they don't like and think is to generic, to bland, jazz if they are rockers and just not with it...lol

Here is an example of what my friends kid me about as being elevator music. I actually could see this being played in Kroger, at least in Miami https://soundcloud.com/planobillydfw/not-enough-coffee-to-be-real

You guys are way ahead of me in being current about music sales.

I think myself and many of my friend got really burned out in the past trying to sell music we considered pretty good. Spend 30K in the studio and get back 12K...sort of depressing.

We also decided we did not need money bad enough to play live for some stupid amount of money that would not even pay the hotel bill for the night. Played for free many times toward the end just because we liked to play together in venues where there were someone other than a bunch of drunks to play to. Many venues simply don't generate enough profit to pay a band.

The only time I ever made any real money was in a film studio for Universal but the recording was done at PolyGram.

Film Studio work is super fun and can be very profitable if one is lucky enough to get it. I also think for the vast majority of us, it is totally luck to get such work.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
