Ah, ok I found it. Some kind of direct link would be a lot easier! I assume you use this site rather than say, Soundcloud, because you share graphics of music charts?

I'm not a jazzer, so the shifting key tonalities were tricky for me to get into I have to confess.
But I appreciate your playing and the ambition of the piece. Thanks for posting something so very different and challenging!

John

Yes,I share music charts.
But I didn't know Soundcloud !

I will go on this site and have a look.

As you mentionned, the shifting key tonalities are the central point of jazz composition. It enables the musician to improvise thru the different keys, almost always a personnal challenge..

Well that was certainly different than what I'm used to, but I will say I ended up enjoying the whole song!
(Hey sometimes I don't even get past the 1st bridge!)
Cool guitar playing. Nice tone.

Thanks for sharing,

Greg

Interesting bit of music. A bit long for my feeble attention span, though.

I took a wrong turn trying to follow your directions, so here's a link to the page.

Vocal control, you say. Never heard of it. Is that some kind of ProTools thing?

hi !
thanks for the comment and the link!
I have now a new direct link to the tunes :

http://soundcloud.com/hyppolyte-bergamotte-jazz/tracks

the length of a jazz tune can vary with the feeling you do receive from the listeners.
When the jazz tune is delivered without listeners ,the length must be long enough to prove your sense on improvisation (on the given harmony),but short enough to avoid that listeners fall asleep !

Hi milou!

You have excellent writing skills and your guitar playing is second to none! At times you sounded like Johnny Smith and other times George Benson. Great chops man!

Would you mind explaining how you get your sound? Things like guitar, strings, pick, amp or amp modeler, recording software, effects and etc. I really like your sound!

This is top shelf material here. You should put out a CD.

Me, it's not about how many times you fail, it's about how many times you get back up.

too kind words!I stopped my career of Endocrinologist when I was 60 (actually 67)in order to learn jazz guitar and harmony more deeply. Before,I had some jazz notions, but I was mainly a guitar collector.. and when young,a Hank B Marvin fan :-)

GUITARS essentially old jazz Gibbo's : L5 (1970) Super400 (1971),175 (1959),345 (1959) ,but also PRS (2 private stock hollow bodies, one semi-hollow body, the little arch top and many electrics from 1985 to 2004.Some fenders also, strats ,old and newer (the Hank Marvin strat) and tele

STRINGS D'Addario EXL 140,52-10,after many tries

PICKs Steve Spinling onyx picks ,from UK ;Don't know if he still does exist

AMP two :1987 Rivera TBR-1 with General Electric 12 AX7A tubes and RCA 5881 for power amp .Fender Princeton reverb 1973

EFFECTS LexiconMPX1 for pitch modulation,Eventide Eclipse for tape echoes with midi pedal and Eventide H8000fw for reverb

Hi Milou,,Its amazing how our brains react to certain styles of music.Even though I like some styles of jazz this song was very hard to get into.Techically it sounded really good but I was looking for some sort of structure and couldnt find it.As I said jazz isnt in my top 10 of music I like so it could be that I need to listen to it quite a few times to get your "message"..by the way I wasnt a big lover of the Beatles "I wanna hold your hand" when it first came out but it got me in the end.Cheers Frankie

well Frankie,

It took for myself a couple of years to be able to " hear" the jazz harmonies.

This song is in fact really structured in terms of harmony:

the tune does employ successively different key tonalities centers :

1) bars 1 to 8 : /G RMM (melodic minor) : Gm-Bb, /C min nat: Eb-G7-Dmin7b5-Eb-Bb7-Cm

2) bars 9 to 16 : /AHM(harmonic minor ):E7b9b13 -Dm11+ - B min7b5 (Locrian 6)-Am ,/D RMM :Bb13-A7b6-Emin7b5-Dm

3) bridge (bars 18 to 24) : /Bb maj :Bb-EbmAb7-,/Bb RMM :Csusb913-Bbm-Db,/G min nat :Em-A7-D7

4) bars 25 to 32 : same as 1)

Then ,on this kind of harmonic construction, you have to construct a "climax":like a painter, you have then to choice colors..
Jazz at beginning of his mastering is NOT a purely improvised music ..until your brain begin to react like a computer ..and then, after some (many for me !) years,it becomes slowly a part of you

cheers !

I enjoyed this far more than I thought I would (mental note to self: never read othe users’ posts before listening!)

Some of the lead gtr passages seem a little too complicated for my liking, but hey I guess that’s jazz.

Je me demande cependant milou si ce morceau n’est pas un peu trop long.

En tout cas, bravo !

:-)) c'est donc un compromis;si tu vas sur myspace, souvent une compo jazz fait 7 min

That is quite a collection of guitars you have there. I would love to get my hands on a L5 or a Super400!

A question for you. Have you ever tried to run D’Addario Chromes on your Gibsons? I really like them as they have a darker more 60’s jazz sound to them than any other string I have tried. They come in 3 gauges, extra light 10-48, light 12-52 and medium 13-56. You might like to try a set and see what you think. I would be interested in your response if you do try them.
