Regular readers of my posts will know that in late 2010/early 2011 my band took part in the Emergenza music festival

Well this episode is now immortalised on YouTube in the form of this composition.

This song is specifically dedicated to all fellow band members and musicians who have recently participated in ‘battle-of-the-bands’ contests, such as the one described.

Just to make this clear – I have nothing but praise for all the Emergenza staff we encountered, who were professional, enthusiastic and helpful throughout our participation in the contest. I wish the organisation the very best for the future.
Also I wrote the lyrics, which do not necessarily represent the views of my co-band members.

If you are thinking of entering one of these things then my advice would be to do so – but with your eyes wide open.

Big thanks on this one to:
- my beautiful and talented daughter Tess on vox
- Alexis for working out, playing and recording the drum parts
- my family, friends, colleagues and all those who came along to support my band at the 3 Emergenza evenings we played.

To complete the picture, the music track was put together on PTPA V 11. No MIDI at all used in making this one. As ever, I'd be grateful for suggestions and ideas for improvement.
The 'video' was made using MS Photo Story 3.

THanks for listening...and watching this time!!

Marc

Ha, ha -- great lyrics and an enjoyable listen. The old "pay to play" battle of the bands -- on a very grand scale. Well, you got a great song out of it.

Nice satire Marc! I loved it. Was the sudden cutoff at the end part of the p**ss take? "Ah, s*d it..."
I wouldn't blame you!
Actually, I don't see why you were so kind to these people in your post - unless it's to avoid a legal action for libel?

Edit: Based on your song and post I had a very caustic comment here about these people but took it out just in case...

THanks John - had a lot of fun writing it and making the vid.

I guess we were lucky with the Paris outfit in that all the Emergenza people we dealt with were really nice and supportive. It is the business model itself which is - what can we say - slightly suspect. THey are just cogs within it.

But then, you weigh it up. We got to play some pretty nice clubs which we wouldn't otherwise have done and there are 7 songs which we can now play blindfolded, we practiced them so much.

THe most annoying thing is constantly having to pester people to come along.

Re. the end - the original plan was an even more brutal "plug-pulling" ending with a Festival presenter coming in "RIght, next band on stage....", but I never got round to that.

Very nice satire.

Personally I think you should have placed higher and gone farther. This was a very good song vocal wise, harmony wise and structure wise. If your other songs were like this one you must have been up against some very strong competition.

Me, it's not about how many times you fail, it's about how many times you get back up.
Cop, that's not how field sobriety tests work.

Josie,

Glad I made you smile!

Mario,
- our set was pretty good though I say it myself. We played (on Ian, from these board's advice!) 3 originals and 4 covers. But this one hadn't yet been written.
- as to the bands that went further than we did. Sadly the only quality required to progress in this competition is the ability to sell tickets. Some of my fellow band members went along to one of the finals and reported that some of the bands were truly awful. But they had lots of friends/hangers on...

I played at a big time club in LA and they charged us a $1000 to play there for one night. Ton's of celebs there but I had to work 2 jobs just to play so I had to Go-Go elsewhere !

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
