Here is my latest. It's called Lonely Man. All of the instruments are BIAB RealTracks & RealDrums. All the vocals are me. I hope you enjoy it!

Lonely Man

Here are the lyrics...

Lonely Man
Copyright Stephen W. Young

On the southern end of a dusty town
An old man lives but you hardly know he's there
He seldom gets around
Some folks say he's half insane
But others say, to him, it's just a game
The mystery abounds

Oh. What a lonely man

They say he had a wife or two
But a woman's touch has not been seen for years
He doesn't seem to care
But in the quiet of the night
He sits alone, too proud to show his tears
There's nobody there

Oh. What a lonely man

On the southern end of a dusty town
An old man lives but you hardly know he's there
He seldom gets around

Oh. What a lonely man
Oh. What a lonely man

That's a mainstream quality tune, Steve. You picked just the right RT's to make this one work. First class arrangement. Lyrics are catchy, vocals sound awesome!

Top notch!!

Mike

That is a great old school country song kind of like in the genre of Kenny Rogers. One point to mention It sounds like something goes away in the background harmonies at one point just before a chord change.

Other than that, winner winner chicken dinner!

This is excellent. As Mike said - a quality tune. And such a good sound too.

Please please tell me how you get your BIAB tracks to sound so crisp and punchy. Lovely clean vocal too and well sung.

It's just plain good!!

Martin,

Thanks very much for your generous comments! As to your question about the sound, I do all my arrangements in Band in a Box. Then export each instrument as a wav file. Then I import all the files into Logic on my Mac, where I record all the vocals (and any other instrumentation), and do all the mixing.

When I am generating the wav files in BIAB, I pan everything center, remove all reverb, (usually) set all the tone settings to 0, and set the volume on every instrument to 111 (because I'm too lazy to type 110!). Then I do any eq, and effects, etc., all in Logic.

I'm sure everyone here has his/her own method of accomplishing what I just described. But you asked...

Thanks again!

Steve

Cousin Tommy! (If we're not careful people will start thinking we really are related!)

I really appreciate your kind words here. (Perhaps you have a little familial bias for my singing.)

Have a great day!

Too cool Steve. Did you say you did all the vocals? Sure sounds like different people coming in and out of there.

Did the lyrics come first, fitted to the style, or did you start with the style?

Were the vocal harmonies created by the BIAB harmony features, or by you?

This is such an aesthetically pleasing sound. You have a really good talent.

Kent

ps Is this Lonely Man someone you are acquainted with? Whereabouts is this dusty little town?

Dave,

Thanks so much for your very kind words! Oh...I'm glad you like it!
I do appreciate you taking the time to listen.

Kent,

Again, thanks very much! Yes, I did do all the vocals. I'm pretty cheap labor, so I do all my own vocals. I use eq to "thin out" the background vocals, so as not to conflict with the lead. I pan the background vocals to space them out in the mix, along with a few other little things too wordy to explain here. Mainly, I listen when I mix to get the best "blend" I can get. Just takes some time and patience.

I write from every angle possible, I think. Sometimes the lyrics come first. Sometimes the melody. Sometimes just a rhythm pattern leads to a song, etc. In this song, the rhythm pattern came first, and I built the lyrics around it.

This Lonely Man is fictitious. I was just thinking about some of the lonely people I have known. Decided to write this, to remind myself that people are hurting all around me.

I live in Texas. We are in a drought. Every town is dusty right now!

Thanks again,

Steve

Hi Steve,

Another sensational effort. I compliment you on your amazing ability to be so creatively consistent. The refrain for this song is one of the best refrains I've heard; simple and incredibly effective.

You've got my standing ovation again!

All the best,
Noel

Robert,

Thanks so much! I honestly don't know how you find the time to listen to this, as much as you are writing these days! You might finish the 50/90 challenge in 50 at this rate!

Thanks again!

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
