BOB is a quick and dirty I did this week. RobertH and I jam every Sunday and he came up with some of these chords. Thus I named the song after him! I used the Rock Ballad w/el. Guit (65RS) BiaB style but with a few changes: 1-drums – verbatim from the style 2-piano – verbatim from the style except I changed the patch to music box from Kontakt 3-strings – again verbatim but I muted a few bars 4-bass and guitars deleted – I played the bass, lead and rhythm guitar parts 5-orchestra – I played via my keyboard controller, Kontakt 6-mallets – this started out as a flute sound played by my wind controller but I didn’t like the way it blended. I found a “Mallet Magic” patch on my M1 soft synth so I change the flute sound to it, copied the track and made the harmony track out that copy. I hope you like it for what it is.
Me, it's not about how many times you fail, it's about how many times you get back up. Cop, that's not how field sobriety tests work.

Really liked this. Very atmospheric. Could be a movie soundtrack.
Far more intricate and exotic than the title would suggest.

Sounds like the track to a dark, i.e., modern, Western. I like it.

Mario,
Very nice, my friend! As has been said, very cinematic. Thanks for sharing this one.

Very nice Mario, very "Spaghetti Western". I would like the guitar solo a little louder though.

Excellent work Mario. Intriguing structure and instrumentation that held me all the way through. More than a hint of Morricone there!

Very cool..I esp liked the "tinkle" kybd effects against the acoustic strum...so many folks here have described it as cinematic/soundtracky...did you have a scene in mind?

Hey Mario,
Huge orchestral sound, powerfully realistic. Good guitar and bass. Is Kontakt just a keyboard with sounds or is there an accompanying plug-in as well? For example, I rarely use my M-Audio bottom-end keyboard KeyRig 49, but I do use the plug-in that came with it extensively. Can Kontakt (or anything else besides RealTracks) produce realistic horn sounds - brass and reeds? My knowledge - meager as it is - extends only as far as MIDI horns, which sound - well, you know how they sound. But in your piece, I thought I heard some pretty good horns in the orchestral background. Can you tell me more?
With kind regards,
Aleck

Yes, I too would like to know more about these horns. Also, Mario, I am one of the ones having trouble navigating the style menu. So when you write "Rock Ballad w/el. Guit (65RS) BiaB style" what exactly is the style you are using? And how could I find that from the info given? All in all, a nice tune, a very pleasant mix, maybe a little heavy on the FX on the Quaalude mallets about 1/3 of the way through.

Thanx all for listening and the very nice comments. Skyline – thank you very much for the Morricone comment. I did not have him in mind when I did this but you are right. Tano Music – no scene in mind when I did this. I just play and let things fall where they may! Aleck – Kontakt, http://www.native-instruments.com/#/en/products/producer/kontakt-5/ is a soft synth. There are many excellent third party patches for it. Solid State Symphony, http://www.indiginus.com/solidstatehome.html was a third party patch that was used for the strings and horns. It is velocity sensitive in that if you play softly you get only the strings. Play harder and you get the full orchestra. You can select what instrument(s) you want for both. I used the complete orhcestra. You can emulate some very good horn and sax sounds in Kontakt and the Aria Player but you have to get familiar with the instrument you are playing and midi controls. In this song I just played the orchestra via a midi keyboard and I did not play with the midi controllers at all. I posted some other information about midi and horns on another PGMusic forum just earlier today. I have CRS so I can’t remember which one Brad - Rock Ballad w/el. Guit (65RS) BiaB style is the exact name of the style that I used Unfortunately those mallet effects were built into the patch that I used.
Me, it's not about how many times you fail, it's about how many times you get back up. Cop, that's not how field sobriety tests work.

Ahh... I now think I see how it's done. The "name" of the style is "Rock Ballad w/el. Guit (65RS)". The actual filename (which I found using the search function), is "_BALADR". Unless I am missing a trick, the filename is more useful in quickly finding a style.
Thanks for your clarification.

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.
Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.
Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!
If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.
A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."
"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."
"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
