Tissue Paper Child

This song was inspired by my son who is very “non-conformist”. We are always trying to get him to do his school work…tidy his room…etc….sometimes I think we are trying to push a square peg into a round hole. I started to wonder if pushing a square peg into a round role is a such good thing, all that happens is the peg changes shape and is that what we really want?

Young children are so easy to influence. We can change them with a careless word. We should be careful with our words and actions because they are just like tissue paper.

I sent the initial version of this song to Floyd who provided some really great suggestions for polishing the lyrics in places that it needed polishing (including giving a "boy" in my original song an actual name that made it much more personal).

Here are the real tracks:

RealTracks in style: ~~542:Guitar, Electric, Rhythm Dreamy Ev 085
RealDrums in style: NashvilleEven16^5-a:Snare, HiHat , b:Snare, Ride

Joanne, a good friend of mine applied the word "malleable" to our children. Sometimes we must beat them into shape! LOL.

I don't want to be redundant but, you have a beautiful voice that I could relax and listen to for hours. That fact sells albums, little lady.

I am not hearing any audio when I click the Soundcloud link. I do hear audio from other sources. I;ll double check my system, in the meantime is this occurance exclusive to my system?

Danny,

Every once in a while, I find that I need to refresh SoundCloud to get it to work. I haven't worked out why. That might be worth trying.

Regards,
Noel

Hi Jo,

Your voice sounds so cool on this song. I was reminded of Judy Collins as I listened. The clarity of your tone is excellent. Also, I have to say that your placement of lyric syllables on the music notes would make Pat Pattison smile. You've definitely adhered to his mantra of "preserve the natural shape of the language".

The reflective feeling that you've captured in the lyrics, the melody, the arrangement and your performance is wonderful. Really nice work.

All the best,
Noel

Hi Don. Thanks so much for the very kind words and no, you are not redundant, I love hearing that you enjoy my voice. It gives me the courage to “keep going” when I feel like giving up.

Guenter. Thanks for listening and your kind comments as always.

Danny. Not too sure what the problem is. I also find soundcloud a bit temperamental. Sometimes I have to close my browser and come back in. I do hope you manage to give the song a listen.

Noel. Thanks so much. I must tell you how much I enjoyed Pat’s course and I think “preserving the natural shape of the language” was one of the big take home points for me. I think it is something that comes naturally to Floyd who was able to give such advice on the song. I am also finding his concept of the “boxes” to plan your song upfront incredibly useful.

ROG. Thanks for giving the song a listen and such nice comments.

That happened to me, too. I kept clicking on the soundcloud volume control and finally it started working -- weird.

Nice song, good singing as others have mentioned. Sounds like a 60's folk song to me. I would look at maybe changing the backing instruments a bit to give it a more distinctive sound -- maybe mandolin, maybe something else. It sounds fine as is, but I think some more variety is needed in the accompaniment.

I like it a lot. You already know that. The concept of the song, the vocal, the simple instrumentation, the aaahhhhs.... Unique. Thoughtful. Interesting.

Looking forward to more and more...

Joanne:

You have some very nice imagery in this song.
Also, I really like what you've done with the background vocal and the effect you used. (is it a phaser?)

Re Soundcloud: I also got no audio at first when I clicked on this link. Then I noticed the speaker icon on the upper right. For some reason it was set to mute. I had not made that change. I clicked on it to unmute and everything was fine.

Kevin. Thanks for giving it a listen. I did sort of think the backing was a bit bland. I may get round to changing it. Thanks for the comments

Floyd. Thanks for your kind comments and for your input on the song.

John. Thanks for the comments. The backup vocals was done with RealBand, I just recorded the choir part (me singing it) and then applied the "Choir - 4 parts all in unison" to it.

Regards

Nahhh, must be something else wrong here. I refreshed my you know what off, even rebooted and still can't hear any audio. I can see the counter moving on the "orange" time bar, but nothing else. Now I can hear audio very well on everyone else's Soundcloud site. Hmmmmmm.

No sweat I'll try later.

Thanks Noel!

Edited Portion: Correction, I cannot hear any audio from Soundcloud at all, any account.

Nice heartfelt song. Bluegrass (our background) has a sub genre called "heart songs." like other folks I agree that the BGV are a cool touch.

Jo,

I really like the concept around which you built this song. The idea of comparing the fragility of tissue paper to any aspect of a child's development is awesome, and it has staggering implications.

The observations you make resonate with me. I like the person you are.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
