After listening to Floyd's great song Something's Gone Wrong, I remembered I had a guitar vocal demo that I never recorded with BIAB. About three or four years ago when

it all fell apart, I was talking to a friend from California who had moved to Mexico. Soon after I experienced a job loss, my wife lost her job after 25 yrs, IRA's were

decimated, and we lost a house in foreclosure. I started looking at the ex pats retiring in Costa Rica and Ecuador as an alternative for our future and I thought how ironic

that as so many people's dream was going south, they were also moving south. We survived and with a sense of humor are moving forward. Anyway's here's my take on

that situation. Thanks to all that take the time to listen and comment. I appreciate it!

I hear Belize is the new ex-pat destination.

Look with what's going on in this country.... It's on the table. Sell everything here and live like a king in an economy where the dollar buys you more for the buck. The thing is.... convincing my wife is the hardest part. I even considered Argentina as a place to retire.... same reason. Been there a few times and loved it each time.

OK...enough about that.... I like the song and it sounds good.

Excellent tune. With the hit to everyone in 2008 the words of your song sure sound familiar. But we soldier on...

Hi Tommy. Great song and performance. Very ironic situation. I grew up in Zimbabwe and always lamented the fact that the situation there split families up with kin scattered all over the world. Looks like we are not alone

Herb, thanks for the comments. I am going to stay away from any political commentary as it might open up an opportunity for those who want to rant. This forum is about the music. Thanks again for the listen. I always look forward to your views on the songs.

Scott, Bob, Joanne and Danny , Thanks for the listen and the comments. It's important to me to get the feedback from each of you.

Josie, Thanks. Who accused me of being sane? Tom

Well aside from the generic response of "I like the song and it sounds good"......

The mix is really well done. Everything is nice and clear and present in the mix. Levels are just about perfect..... vocals nicely upfront, instruments where they should be.

The writing and lyrics are well done too. Nice hook. The song structure is solid.

The nit I would pick is at the end. You gotta watch BB/RB sometimes because some of those players are not paying attention. The song ends on ONE of the last measure with a drum hit and cymbal crash..... however the acoustic guitar plays a few more strums, not ending in the same place as everyone else..... makes the ending sloppy.

Simply use a volume envelope to pull the acoustic out on or before that hit on ONE..... or edit the acoustic wave with a split/delete to remove the last part.
It will clean up that ending and make it a buttoned up ending like your ear expects to hear right there.

much better Tommy..... but.... now I notice a several db volume drop on that last chord.... I know it's nit picking..... but the small things are what makes the big picture.

I am guilty of not having everything just right and I notice it in my own tunes. In one of the last ones I posted.... the cowboy song, and it might still be the one online, the ending steel and fiddle are a few db lower than I would like..... it's fixed in the computer but not uploaded to the net....

hope you take the nit picking in stride.

Herb, I can't believe you heard that. I had to pull it down a little because of the way I had to clip it in there. But I boosted back up a few db's. This may sound confusing but - It is weird how when you go back and add soloists after you already have the soloist file imported to your DAW it changes the original one to the newly imported one. Anyways that should be on a different forum. But the last chord was the same only too loud. Now I think it's right. Thanks again, I wish I had your ears. Tom

you nailed it this time....

You probably "have those ears now".... you just need to pay attention to the feelings and intuitions you get....and then listen as a critic to the song.....that place in the song where it's OK...passable.... but something kinda doesn't "feel right"..... find the smallest nit and fix it.... chords that start a few milliseconds late, notes a few cents off pitch, endings not tight, a slight pop on a "P" or a smeared "S", clicks and pops in the song, the list is endless.... critical listening skills can be developed.

If I had to guess.... I would say that you already knew the ending wasn't quite right even after fixing the guitar..... just a guess.

"sell everything that's not nailed down" One fine line that I pulled out of a song full of them. I like it all.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
