Hi everyone,

Our new song:

Looking back

Rob originally composed Looking back in 1993. He used one of the styles of the Roland E10 arranger keyboard.
It's a dramatic song about the breakup with a girlfriend and a failed attempt to get her back.
This is the new 2014 R & AM version. The used real tracks fairly resemble the original arrangement.
Since the original version had only MIDI tracks, this new arrangement has a more 'real' sound to it.

Used real tracks:
1253 Bass Electric, PopShiningHeld Ev 12
894 Piano, Acoustic, Solo-Accompaniment PopLondon Ev 065
RealDrums NashvilleEven16
896 Guitar 12 String Acoustic, Rhythm FolkRock Ev 100
1763 Guitar Electric, Rhythm Pop16thsGritty Ev16 085
2337 Violin, Background, PopHigh EV 085
686 Organ, B3, Background Pop Ev 120
Additional guitar and solo: Squier Stratocaster

Any comments are welcome.

Lyrics:

Looking back

here at the crossroads in this clear summer sky
these are the lines and the lies that you brought by
so free
here is my slow fading smile

you seem to know exactly how you feel
my good intentions still feel so real to me
this place this town it's where I'll be

no reason for doubt no more running around
standing still (live without me)
I'll try to forget what we once had
looking back

I'll show you a train it'll take you back home
the friend I once met I met her alone
and still
I know you won't be coming home

though the reasons won't show there is one thing I know
I can tell (live and let go)
that I'll try to forget what we never had
looking back

Regards,
R & AM

Very cool song!! Very passionate, very well arranged and sung. I think the violin and guitar work great together. I wouldn't change a thing. Great stuff!! Take care. Greg

Hi Rob and Anne-Marie. In a songwriting competition this would be a top tier contender. I like it and congratulate you on completing such a quality production.

I will share that this song struck a chord with me. I wrote a page of comments, suggestions, compliments and criticisms of my analysis of the writing, performance and arrangement. I re-read my remarks, listened to the song several times, returned and edited my comments and and after an hour, finally decided to cut to the chase and just say the bottom line conclusion I reached.

If nothing else, I know how to fail at love and you guys have done an excellent job of conveying that feeling in song.

Regards,

Charlie

Rob and Anne-Marie,

I love listening to each new song and this is no exception. I still can't get over how high the quality of your material, arrangement, performance and production continues to be.

Nice work. The moor/Spanish flamenco flavored chord progression ( my interpretation) and style go well together to support your story. Ditto the early comment about the Violin followed by the guitar. Nice. Patrick

Greg, thanks, I'm glad the emotion and passion I tried to put in the song can be "felt" by the listener.

Hi Danny, actually it was, but it was 25 years ago! grin

Hi Charlie, your response is very much appreciated.
Failing at love is definitely the main theme in this song. I was very young at the time. However it took me years to get over it.
This song has always been very important to me, and I'm glad I could add a little extra to it with Biab.

Jim, we're glad you like our material and arrangements. We pay a great deal of attention to the final mixdowns of our songs, although this can sometimes take hours.

Floyd and Guenter, thank you, we always appreciate your positive responses to our songs.

Patrick, flamenco flavored chord progression.... that's definitely a compliment. The arranger keyboard I used for the initial version gave me a new musical perspective. Before that I only composed on guitar.

PgFantastic, thanks for your nice comment.

Regards,
Rob

Hi Rob and Anne-Marie. Found the song haunting and a little unsettling. Beautifully produced and sung. Cheers.

Another top notch song and production.

How did you get that delayed arpeggiated keyboard sound?

Is it the 894 piano with delay added?

much enjoyed!

Hello Lawrence,

Thanks.
Luckily the style I used here already pretty much resembled the Roland keyboard sound, so I didn't have to edit all that much.
I did however add a slight delay to the piano track.

Regards,
Rob

Hi RichMac,

Thanks, I'm glad you picked up the true emotion of this song.
Transferring emotion is the main thing we are after in our music.

Rob

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
