Everything but the vocals is Band-in-a-Box. I don't have the exact styles, instruments, and solos anymore, but I hope you still enjoy and are inspired by what is possible with Band-in-a-Box.

This is another good write and shows the versatility that your melodies and lyrics can work across several genres. For me, however, the instrumental mixture of styles you used in the song did not work with the style being a mixture rather than dedicated to one or the other. Meaning, the song works as a reggae song or as a smooth, love song but didn't work as a mixture of the two for me. Your vocals didn't sound reggae enough to match the music and the music had elements of a smooth love song but the reggae feel detracted from that. I think the smooth love song feel matches the video best.

Your lyrics are great and the melody is a good match for the lyrics. You have plenty of good things happening here. I enjoyed the song and the video with just a bit of a disconnect on instruments on this one. All of your posts are quite well written pieces and good productions. I look forward to hearing more from you.

Quite different from the other 2 I've heard. Very nice!! I like the simple, whimsical nature of the song, lyrically and musically. Reminds me of something John Lennon could have done in his "Starting Over" phase. I do feel that the sax may be a bit too sweet for the vibe. Very enjoyable listen!! Take care. Greg

Great video! Your kids? If so, how do you get time to record?

I am the weird one here as I think the backing tracks are super. I like the mixture of genres here!

The lyrics are top notch!

Good one!

Me, it's not about how many times you fail, it's about how many times you get back up.
Cop, that's not how field sobriety tests work.

They are my kids, but this was a few years ago. I am a single dad so it is hard to find time for music sometimes, but it is my passion so I make time. I was inspired to try and write a tune similar to Jason Mraz's "I'm Yours". I mainly wanted to get a pop-reggae feel. I agree that the sax seems extremely out of place with the rest of the song and I am not very good at an imitation reggae vocal. I appreciate all the comments and will try to keep some of the suggestions in mind if/when I get a chance to rework this song.

Hi John,

I like the song and the video. I used to be a single dad, too and I also made time for music.
Who is The Mulebarn Band?

The Mule Barn Band was a running joke between my younger brother and me. When I first started recording I played every instrument and did all the vocals except my brother would play percussion for me. So we made up names for imaginary members of the band. When I started using Band-in-a-Box, I guess BB became the band. I played with some guys in Germany in the late 1980's that used the name for a year or two, but J.T. Legend and the Mule Barn Band has always been an homage to those home recording sessions with my brother.

Interesting and, yup, always fun experimenting.
When we first did a BIAB reggae production Janice
was surprised at how different it was singing to that
beat.

We enjoyed the sentiment and the video...
Go Dad!
