You're a person whose ideas, style, and taste come from a broad and diverse range of sources and on this song it all starts with your instrument choices. Everything is put together very nice. I like this one a lot. Enjoyed my listen.

Yeah.... this has some nice parts.

The main reason you are struggling with this and can't find a melody in it is because it has no real structure and the changes in the chords are much too numerous and random.

This was what I was thinking as I listened: It sounds like an introduction at the start... but then I could not tell when the intro stopped, is it here: nope.... here? nope.... ok way too long for the intro...... the next thing I thought was...OK no intro, straight into the verse..... then after a while..... ok...where is the end of this verse into a chorus or bridge or something? ...... hummmm.... nothing is making musical sense in a structural way.... just one long random jam..... OK...so.... lets see where it goes.....for 4:40.....

You might have part markers in this but I couldn't tell you where they are.... there are no "part markers" for the listener. Even folks who play those longer songs with guitar.... folks like Via and Satriani and others... if you listen to those tunes there is structure to the song if only for the listener.

This sounds more like something that the Melodist function will give you when you ask it to compose a song for you.... in a jazz kinda style.... lots of changes and some get pretty far out there.

The solution is to consolidate it a bit. Find the parts you like and that sound good.... copy and paste and remove the strange and abnormal sounding changes. Build some structure and repetition into that structure..... if you do that, I'll bet that you could find a melody easily. There were a number of really good, solid song ideas in there.... you just need to extract them and compose them into a structured song format. By using the word structure..... it doesn't have to be boring.... just give the listener a break by placing some signposts in there to let us know where we are.

I hope this points you in the right direction.

Another parting thought.... bring instruments in and out... I seem to recall hearing lots of things playing constantly ..... use them as accents and let them have a spotlight then step back and let something else shine. That too keeps interest. I wanted to smash that freaking dobro....

Hi Eric,
I could never analyse this as Herb does. But I can see his point. Still some great guitar wizardry going on ☺

Hi Eric,

As always, your guitar work and the tone you use are spectacular.

The sonic fabric of this creation is masterful in that the choice of instruments and their mixing is inspired. That there is no easily identified signature melody did not bother me. Some people write lyrics using a principle called "Stream of Consciousness". This composition sounds like it could well be the musical equivalent of that process. I simply sat back and enjoyed your creation as a relaxing, pleasant musical journey.

All the best,
Noel

An interesting mix, I agree with Herb about the direction. At times I wondered what the time signature was. Bars of 4 seemed to appear in unexpected places. Nevertheless, it was certainly melodic.

Very sweet!! You and the band really connected on this one, and the playing was equally beautiful on both of your parts. Really loved this!! Take care. Greg

As others have mentioned, it's a bit meandering. I got about halfway through, and figured with was finished.

But still, there are some really nice things going on here, and I thought there were places where you did give the instruments space instead of everything going at once which well.

Vocal control, you say. Never heard of it. Is that some kind of ProTools thing?

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
