Moonlight Embers (8-29-10)

the sisters and the mothers will cross me with their sorrow
before morning’s first light to lay my hopes low
and the storm in the trees she whispers of tomorrow
and the woman they call gypsy the only one that seems to know

I’ll do what I can, I’ll lie if I have to
I need you to be here when the sun wakes again
I wait and I wonder with wanting deception
I crawl through the silver that the star lights have lain

she stares in the moonlight with eyes bright as embers
and renders the flesh from my bones
and the silence inside her leads straight to disaster
and where her dreams come from, well ain't nobody knows

I’ll do what I can, I’ll lie if I have to
I need you to be here when the sun wakes again
I wait and I wonder with wanting deception
I crawl through the silver that the star lights have lain

and memories of yesterday, will surely destroy you
and sorrow is regret's [*****] son
and the hunger you’re feeling will all but consume you
if you can't reconcile with the things you done

I wait by the water for the woman they call gypsy
but there just ain't no tellin where that river’s flown
but her eyes are the moonlight burning bright as embers
I suppose she has returned to her mountain home

Hi Lawrence,

Tom is not the only one who could listen to your voice
all night long. A great production.
I'd like to see the lyrics printed.

Beautiful!! Arrangement, lyrics, production all work great. I'd love to find something original to say but, like others, I just love your vocals. Your voice has a great texture-really rich and full of character. Great stuff! Great to have you back! Take care. Greg

Thank you for listening. I added the lyrics. Some of the lines are variations of or allusions to a song titled "Lung" by my favorite songwriter Townes Van Zandt.

That's very generous of you to say. Thank you. A few years back I was encouraged by a friend who has a PHD in music to always sing "full voice". So I've been doing my best to follow his advice.

Lawrence,
I read the comments first, so I was very curious to hear that voice... The comments are absolutely right! You have a great natural country style singing talent. Harmonies were subtle but effective.
The song is well written. Well build up. At the end the song fades out, personally I would have finished it with your last word "done"
A great listen, hope to hear more of you in the future,
Grtz

Missed you, but man what a re-entry.
There is a vocal styling/sound that cuts across
what we call Americana and you have
it nailed. Lights out nailed. Great write
and a terrific arrangement and mix
to support it all. Welcome back indeed.

I started to listen this morning but got distracted by other things.....

What a cool tune. I love the way you used the accordion and the drums were so "off the wall" outrageously good....those P&W tracks are really nice if you want or need something other than a straight beat.

Good work on the lyrics too.... some cool lines in this.

Listening again.... good stuff.

Thank you for stopping in for a listen and glad that you liked it. I will give your consideration about the end a go in my DAW and if I agree I may make the change.
