This was my 1st foray into BIAB.

https://soundcloud.com/rayc/heart-shaped-bruise-151113
https://soundcloud.com/rayc/hsb080516
The one above is an update with MORE drums (MORE BIAB).
It's also available as an MP3 download for fewer artifacts...
https://www.dropbox.com/s/qnpdfd68yty2ils/HSB080516_r8b.mp3?dl=0
The BIAB drum track, (RealDrum Rockeven8) is a little busy but I was sussing out how & when to insert markers and changes. It's been augmented by the Fat Drum Loop preset in Blockfish - from the Fish Fillets suite of VSTs (freebies).
I played the rhythm guitars and bass.
The former a Mosrite copy (Guyatone) into a Kustom Defender 5H amp & Marshall 4 x 12. The Vantage bass through a Marshall Superbass MkII with the dials set as per Lemmy Kilminster's preferences.
Gerry Steele from The Hamilton Steele Band played the self harmonizing solos.
Tim - PhraseMaker - a songwriter from Leeds in the UK did the vocals - again 2 part.
Seems something about the key pushed those two blokes into recording two parts.
The vocal is place marker as the lyric was written with a woman's point of view and voice in mind.
Recorded and mixed in Reaper.
LYRICS
HEART SHAPED BRUISE
Every time you lie
Every time you cheat
It’s no victory
It’s our love’s defeat

CHORUS
There’s a heart-shaped bruise
Where my heart should be
And this heart-shaped bruise
Is absorbing me

Ev’ry errant thought
Ev’ry stolen look
Each and ev’ry entry
In your little book

Ev’ry small abuse
Ev’ry power play
Kills the spark inside
Turns my love away

CHORUS
There’s a heart-shaped bruise
Where my heart should be
The bleeding inside
Is consuming me

Ev’ry time you whisper
Ev’ry time you coo
You pull me down
Just to satisfy you

There’s no salvation
There’s no excuse
The damage has been done
Now my heart’s no use

MIDDLE
Take it out
Cut it out
Take it out
Cut it out

There’s no way forward
Our history’s sour
What looks like love
Is an exercise in power

CHORUS
There’s a heart-shaped bruise
That cannot be redeemed
We can’t remove the scars
From this shattered dream

There’s a heat-shaped bruise
Where my heart should be
Now it’s in my hands
And it’s up to me

Cheers

Hi Ray...

I like it! Interesting concept of a heart-shaped bruise, and the singing and playing all work together well too!

I'm curious to know what part BIAB played in the song... it's customary here to list real tracks used and also lyrics

welcome to the user showcase! great job on your first submission!

Ray,

That's well done. A good listen.

I did not think the drums were overly busy for the style - these type songs often have "enthusiastic" drummer - so I thought it fit. I did think the drums needed to be louder - the guitars seem mixed "over" the drums.

Enjoyed it. (Would like to hear a powerful female vocal on it if that ever happens...)

Hi Ray,

Congrats on your "first foray into BIAB"! Like Pat, I really liked the hook 'heart-shaped bruise'. It's a clever lyrical concept. The images the phrase brought with it really appealed to me.

BIAB is such a great songwriting tool. It takes anyone who uses it to whole new levels of achievement and creativity.

All the best!
Noel

Pat nailed it. Great hook. Cool rocker you've got
going here. Bump the drums up a little! Nice mix
from all the disparate sources. Works well.

Rock on...

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
