Great job on this, RichMac I found this tune to have an almost "menacing" quality if you will. There's a unique essence to this that drew me in. It almost reminds me of certain songs by King Crimson - which is most definitely a good thing in my books.
Thanks so much for sharing!

This is definitely a different style of tune then I am used to hearing on the User Showcase! It has an almost ominous feeling to it. I really enjoy ir, and I especially love these lyrics:
Blinds pulled tight Self-made man Keepin' out tomorrow like you Had a plan
Thanks for the listen and comments Deryk. Glad you caught the danger in the song. (the walls are not coming down they're going up) And thanks for the mention of King Crimson my heroes of 40 years ago. If I could imitate them I would do it in a flash. Cheers.
I really like this song a lot!!! Great music and lyrics.
From a mastering stand point, you need to add a little boost to the volume. On the Windows volume meter slider (which is sort of a handy meter) it is only coming up about a quarter of the way, which tells you it is at a much lower volume than what is out there by most people.
To solve MOST mastering problems, I have two quick fixes:
1.) Get the mix as CLOSE as you can to balanced and EQ'ed for each track, then export it. Then buy Lurssen Mastering for $156, select a preset and hit render. You are done.
2.) For the free option, google Variety of Sound and download their entire package. Get to know each plug in. A remarkable value for free. (32 bit.)
Use the BootEQ on as much as you want. Even the master bus. You can turn on a tube amp simulator, dial in the precise amount of frequencies you want, and also use the gain knob on the left to boost the sound.
If you are not already using Audacity, learn how to use that for the final, final export and just set the normalization to -.5 or something and you will be good.
Great song though!!!

Enjoyably ominous-I really liked the lyrics and your gritty vocal suits the song. As David says, it does come through at a low volume and that reduces the "heavy" sound the song deserves, but this is my favourite of your recent songs.
I hope you realise David how much I appreciate your taking the trouble to send such a practical and useful set of comments! Have been busy playing with Boot EQ. Great fun with all the knobs. I hope the amended version is a little better. Have printed your post off and will definitely spend time working through all the points. Thank you again and Cheers.
Hey cool man!! Sounding good. Keep fiddling with those knobs!
Have fun with those Variety of Sound plugins. I hope you downloaded the whole pack.
Experiment with all of them on different tracks. There is a nice plate reverb VST in there, and the Ferric TDS module (tape simulator) is really nice on the master bus to add some glue, as well as putting the BootEQ on the master bus too.
The BootEQ is a down and dirty fix for almost everything (like drums) and can be used in hundreds of situations.
If I were on a desert island and could only take one plugin (as they say) I would take my BootEq.

It's great to see you back posting! You've been missed I enjoyed this one. I found it refreshing to listen to a song in a minor key. We don't hear that too often in music these days. I'm with floyd, this is definitely one of your best!

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."
"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."
"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
