Hey y'all! I'm in the middle of a crazy online challenge to write 5 songs in 5 days to daily prompts that are provided. This is day three and I'm having a great time challenging myself and my creativity. Of coarse I am using BIAB to do the instrumentals as it make life a lot easier. I wrote this one today and I love the way it came out so I would like to share it with you all. Todays challenge was to take a list of ten words provided (casino, star boulevard, follow pinstripe control, caliber, naïve, dusty, underwater) and use at least 5 of them to write a song. What I came up with is an alternative song in the style of The Killers or The Strokes. (Note: the link above is a Musicoin link. If you prefer Soundcloud I will post that link at the bottom)

Real Tracks:
683: Bass, Electric, Pop Half Note Push
1265: Synth Pad, Pop Shining Soft
1028: Guitar, Electric, Strumming Dirty Open
2668: Pedal Steel, Background West Coast Ballad
2934: Guitar, Acoustic, Rhythm Folky Sync 8ths Fintan
Real Drums=Prais Worship Uptempo

I used the built in Auto Wah VST on both of the guitar tracks.
All vocals and mixing was done in Cubase 9. Most of the tracks received some sort of saturation treatment. Final mixing and mastering was done using Final Mix plugins MixBusEQ7 and M1LimitterLite.

150 BPM
Key of Ab

Lyrics:
Cruising down the boulevard looking at the sky.
Top down on the Audi with the pinstripe on the side.
Driving out to nowhere in the middle of the night.
Pushing all the limits just to feel we were alive.

oh… we were young, we were young, we were young and just a little bit naïve.
oh… it was fun, it was fun, it was fun. We were playing make-believe.
Not a care in the world. Just you and me girl.
Living it up. Back when we were seventeen.

We’d drive out to the valley and we’d find a place to park
We’d sit and talk for hours in the back seat of that car.
We talked about our dreams. You said I want to be a star.
I told you I would follow you, no matter near or far.

oh… we were young, we were young, we were young and just a little bit naïve.
oh… it was fun, it was fun, it was fun. We were playing make-believe.
Not a care in the world. Just you and me girl.
Living it up. Back when we were seventeen.

Somewhere we lost control and we went our separate ways.
But thinking of those nights it brings a smile to my face.

oh… we were young, we were young, we were young and just a little bit naïve.
oh… it was fun, it was fun, it was fun. We were playing make-believe.
Not a care in the world. Just you and me girl.
A pocket of change and a head full of curls.
Living it up. Back when we were seventeen.

Thanks Rob. I've been on a lyrical roll this week. It's been great. I find that sometimes quick writes keep you from overthinking too much. Just get it out there and see what happens.

Great song, lyrics perfect, tune hits home and brings back a lot of memories. Possibly a tad fast on the bpm. You could handle the lyrics easier at a bit slower speed. Love the song!!!

Great work on this, Samuel! I concur - it is hard to believe you wrote this as quickly as you did. It came out sounding stellar considering! I thoroughly enjoy the hook on this one. It is very reminiscent of Mumford & Sons to me.

Very well done - thanks so much for sharing smile

Cheers,
Deryk

Vocal control, you say. Never heard of it. Is that some kind of ProTools thing?

How can you pump out songs so quickly! That's crazy and impressive. I really love the upbeat feel of this song! Thanks for sharing.

I find when I challenge my self with a challenge like this one or FAWM where you have a deadline to write a song in a certain amount of time it helps you to focus more and you can be more productive. Also once I get a song or two down the inspiration just stars to flow.

Samuel,
Very well written, sung and produced... especially given the time constraints.
Upbeat and enjoyable.

Glad to hear about the 5 songs in 5 days challenge! Sometimes I find the best work comes from having a little candle lit underneath the seat. Great work on this song too! Very fun tune. Well done!

Joe

Thanks guys. I think of it as more a mix of rock and pop but I guess my country influence shows through lol

Vibrant, nostalgic, driving, fantastic.

This is a great write, and I really loved both the lyrics and the backing. Everything here complemented everything else. Topped off with excellent vocals.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
