No More Evening Prayers BIAB style: _MIST.STY (Misty Fingerpicking Folk). Voice recorded in my bedroom and mixed with Audacity (and some would say naivety, but there you go - yes, I can hear the groans at that joke from here, but, again, there you go). Anyway, feedback most welcome, of course - and thanks ever so much for listening! NO MORE EVENING PRAYERS - lyrics I haven't met you yet; that much is true. I cannot write a love song about what I have no clue ... I pray to the Lord, if it be His will, To run into you one day and tell you how I feel. I haven't met you yet; that much is so; I cannot write a love song about that which I don't know. So I go talk to priests and visit wise soothsayers, For, if I meet you, I'll forget to say my evening prayers. And the Lord will try us, surely, to deny;
He will try so hard to make you never mine
For He knows that if I hold you in my arms
I'll forget to tell Him even "thanks".
And, for all my thoughts and prayers, He's aware
That I'd be completely happy if you were
Mine forever, be it peace or be it war ...
If that were, I'd need no prayers any more.You're more real to me than any fake god Whose assistance I still need whilst on the road Towards meeting you and holding you to me, If you will, for all eternity. rsdean: Aznavour-like quality to my voice? You've made my day here :-) You're way, way too kind, of course - I wish I had a sliver of what he has when he sings, vocally speaking! But I'll take your compliment nevertheless, before you change your mind, haha ... it's easily the best one that I've ever received for any of my "vocals", haha - thank you! :-)
Tangmo: I'm so glad you've noticed the irony, haha. I seem to have been channelling a really misguided miscreant when I wrote those lyrics, haha. Bit of a rebellious streak in him, too, right? It crossed my mind, AFTER writing the lyrics (of course), that perhaps one doesn't have to choose between a spiritual interest and a love interest ... they can both co-exist, there's room for both in one's life, perhaps. Who knows. Either way, this fellow in the lyrics is not having any of it, so ... . I did read some of the lyrics to some friends last night, I think I gave them quite the merry enjoyment :-) - so thanks for your kind words, also!
The lyrics were also inspired a little from Patrick Susskind's book "Perfume", where an ordinary man suddenly granted all the wishes he could ever hope for forgets, that evening, for the first time in his life, to say his evening prayers. But anyway ... thanks again.
Joe: thank you. I could do with someone who knows what they're doing when they're singing to sing some of this, perhaps an octave higher than me? haha. I genuinely feel like a donkey who's heard the nightingales of this forum sing and decided to join in, lol. But thanks once again ... the delivery, at least (if not the actual vocals per se), I do like :-)
