That is an interesting track. Quite different what I am used to hear from you. I like the instruments you have chosen for this performance - they sound good together.

Enjoyable listen!

I try not to go into any of these songs with expectations but this is something completely unexpected [in a good way] . When you open up the Box you never know what might pop out. I agree with Scott it sounds very European. Everything sounds great. Nicely done, Tom

Indeed.... Scott and Tom mentioned the European feel.... I got the same feeling. Cool tune

Tano,
Excellent composition. So much is going on, yet listens VERY well. Bandeon was a nice addition.
Perhaps non-verbal scat? Liked it!

Misha.

Hi Tano,

I agree with Misha, a lot is going on in this nice song. It also has a touch of the Mediterranean, or bit of France.
What I found most interessting is the changing of the rhytme two times. Very clever how you did that. It is not so easy to do this without making the song a bit inimitable or confusing.

Like it,
Hans

Simply stated this is a showcase on the showcase forum. Engaging is THE word.

Absolutely exceptional use of RT's, RD's and midi.

And a fine mix.

We just love all of the nuances...takes several listens to absorb them.

Excellent!

Your command of harmonic progressions is nothing short of remarkable. The track is relaxing, chilled, the saxophones are stunning. But, for me, the harmonic progressions are what makes me look at this track (and at your abilities) in awe - they and your abilities to create them are above my paygrade - at least for now, hopefully. Congratulations.

Thanks James...I start my process in BIAB and usually try to make my harmonics go in unexpected directions, then work to create melodies, etc., that function well along that winding path. It (sometimes) works out well! And, if you're lucky, the RT's sound great, like the sax's in this piece. Thanks for listening!

Thanks so much for explaining! Yes, BIAB is well-suited to that - to see where the chords and counterpoint (is that the right word?) go when one uses it to write. I can do some good things with it, but your stuff sounds almost Debussy-esque or something with the unexpected chord progressions it has. No other way to do it except (more) practice from me on these areas of writing ... but it's good to know that you approach it the same way as I do. Thanks for sharing!

This has a wonderful groove!! I've always loved the Latin jazz rhythm, and the change up was really cool! Nice work!! Take care. Greg

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
