Whole Lotta Stupid

In the United States, the Federal Communications Commission used to have a rule known as the Fairness Doctrine that basically required radio and television broadcast stations to present controversial issues in an "honest, fair, and equitable" manner. It's too bad we don't have a similar regulation today that applies not only to traditional broadcast stations, but also to cable and satellite stations. Then, perhaps, we would have less of this inanity and insanity coming from both sides of the political spectrum. In the spirit of this defunct policy, I am presenting myself as an equal opportunity mocker in this song.

Lyrics:

Nazi freaks and libtards
A fifty-foot fence in my backyard
Snowflakes, homophobes
Aliens and their anal probes

It’s a whole lotta stupid

Everybody anything goes
See how my tolerance shows
I’m open minded through and through
As long as you all just think like I do

It’s a whole lotta stupid

If you’re left, you’re not right
If you’re right, you are wrong
If you’re anything but white
Don’t come here ‘cause you don’t belong
Stupid

It’s a whole lotta stupid

What’s a few dollars with a few deaths
The sanctity of life in the same breath
Arrogance and ignorance
Choking on mental flatulence

It’s a whole lotta stupid

Hoaxes, conspiracy theories
Reporters with their “nasty” queries
Save this democracy
From exponential idiocy

It’s a whole lotta stupid

If you’re left, you’re not right
If you’re right, you are wrong
If you’re anything but white
Don’t come here ‘cause you don’t belong
Stupid

It’s a whole lotta stupid

Scott,
Nice! I do not know whether to laugh or cry...
Great vocals, fun arrangement -> nice merger of synths and acoustics! Stops at ending are very effective. Excellent artistic reflection of current times. Thank you for sharing.

Sort of your version of Tom Petty's "Quit Jamming Me." Danged if I don't feel you because I do. Sweet arrangement and powerful vocal that "lets it all out" the longer it goes. Great work on the lead guitar. Real Tracks? Outstanding, either way. Love the drops to silence...sweet, sweet silence...but alas, it's only a temporary reprieve. Really enjoyed this.

Nice production and vocals.

I'm not what to make of the stop and go ending. It's... different. But it certainly got my attention! smile

Vocal control, you say. Never heard of it. Is that some kind of ProTools thing?

Hi Ez ...

Di and I were talking about just a few days ago. And you hit the nail on the head! Stupid doesn't come with political or social labels ... it's just there or it isn't. And Washington seems to be pretty badly infected with it ... as are the social platforms. i cancelled my InstaGram and Facebook accounts almost three years ago ... don't miss them at all! Good job!

Best to you ... and be safe.

Alan

You get points right off the bat for writing about current issues. Really did a great job hitting that chorus which is super strong and those guitar solos and licks in there really add some punch. I really like the way it moves and the infectious energy. Great work, and really impressive the way you too so many RealTracks and weaved them together into a cohesive whole.

The Federal Communications Commission rule known as the Fairness Doctrine was erased by Regan in a deal with Rupert Murdoch. Rupert got US Citizenship and a free hand as well as the right to buy upp US media at a colossal rate. Regan received, in return, a guaranteed bias in the media Murdoch owned...still applies now.
Who'd have thought that Idicocracy was a prescient movie.
FUN song, you've captured the words , phrases and nuances of the last three years or so very well.
I liked the stops and the expectation they created and then didn't meet.

I can tell you've been watching the TV recently and probably a bit too much.

I like it. The song that is.... not the stupidity I see on the TV

Ezekiel,

I generally avoid commenting on sensitive topics on the internet, but I share a longing for the days when the news stuck to “Who, What, When, Where and Why” and tried to communicate events to the masses with some balance. What would Walter Cronkite think of all this, I wonder? Now, when I’m even inclined to read the news, I have to read multiple sources and then try to discern what little truth may or may not lie somewhere in between. Sad.

Anyway, the song is terrific—nice beat and rhythm guitar really propels it forward. Not sure why I’m hearing a Bowie feel, but for me it has it in spades. And it’s a good hook. I’m not sure I like the stop and go at the end, but that last stop is effective, as as it wouldn’t work without the ones going before it, I get the rationale.

Really well done tune—enjoyed it!

All my best,

Deej

Hi Ezeliel,

A great track which supports my longstanding view that we're all doomed.

Some very inventive stuff in the arrangement and I loved the interrupted ending
which sort of had it's own message.

Very clever, very true, but sad all the same.

Enjoyed the listen though.

ROG.

"What’s a few dollars with a few deaths
The sanctity of life in the same breath

Strong stuff here indeed. Point on in a superbly creative manner.

As I (Bud) am fond of saying stupid is forever while ignorance has the possibility of remedy.

No need to parse this song out. We love everything about including:

- the strong vocal
- the choice of tracks
- the cool arrangement including the grab ya ending
- the in your face yet nuanced mix
- and the aforementioned write

Hmmm...guess we did just parse it out smile

Great work!

Ezekiel,

Very funny. You should write more songs like this!

Very timely and very true.

Hey, if aliens move here is there a planet they are currently coming from that we can move to? Seems like a fair deal.

I will tell them they can have this one man.

Excellent write and a strong performance. Stupid, alas, is ever present and everywhere.
I think it was Deej who mentioned Bowie and to my ears your voice has a very similar quality in spots.

Leon

Scott,

Excellent lyric. A whole lot of truth.

Good use of BIAB. The synths, in particular. Good mix. The stops are as effective as a profane tweet. smile

There is a David-Byrne-ish-ness to this. A good thing...

Well done.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
