Rock n Roll Reactionary Blues redux
I MAY have posted this previously but can't recall...anyway this is a faster version if nothing else.
A little joke song I wrote, breaking as many rules as I could along the way, in response to someone who was a stickler for musical rules.
I resurrected it and attempted to kick it up a notch with Scott C on lead guitar but it proved to be not really worth the effort so I sped it up and left the original BIAB solo & drums tracks in place just to call it done. Scott did some lovely work but I didn't want to torture him further.

Laid Back Blues style
570 Guitar Slide Solist Blues Monday Swing
Real Drums Nashville 128
My Squire through a Marshall for the rhythm guitars and a Vantage bass.
Recorded & mixed in Reaper.
Lyrics...

Picasso reassembled Les Demoiselles d’Avignon,
He'll follow the PreRaphaelite script,
Seurate has agree to join the dots,
To save himself from being whipped.
Derain & Matisse have promised,
That they'll always colour by the numbers.
While Salvador Dali committed to keep it real,
As a street cred rumbler.

I know, I taken advantages
And I haven't paid my dues.
Now I've been painted into a corner,
With the rock n roll reactionary blues.

Frank Lloyd Wright,
Has stopped the waters falling,
He realized apartment blocks were calling.
Piet Mondrian has started to using the circle,
Primary colours squared wasn't the right vehicle.
David Hockney will reject the pile of cash,
He’s heartily embarrassed at making such a splash.
Jackie Pollock has taken on acting roles,
Since he realized the mistake that was Blue Poles.

CHORUS

Andy Pandy Warhol has given up his stint,
And he's now making wallpaper in his famous screen print.
Poor Antoni Gaudi can't work out what to be,
He recognized his buildings belonged beneath the sea.
Jorn Utzon's orange is being reassembled as we speak,
Can’t have a house of opera that doesn't reach the peak.
Henry Moore's no more - he couldn't take the pace,
He couldn't make a sculpture with a recognizable face.

CHORUS

Poor Orson Welles: poor Orson,
He’s swollen: fat.
He's bloated and forlorn,
That is that.
Someone nicked, his little Rosebud.
When he, foolishly,
Left it on the lawn.

CHORUS

ray,

A very clever write. You had me Googling a number of people. An education.

Good tracks. Good vocal. Well mixed.

I thought everything worked.

Hello Ray ...

Your lyrics are always thought-provoking. Nothin' wrong with that. Nice arrangement with some surprising but cool chord changes. And like Floyd, I had to look up a couple names. Interesting all the way through. Cool! Happy New Year ...

Very clever and interesting lyric. I'd say that was a unique take on the blues.

Nice work.

Hi Ray,

well, it will take some time and a lot of googling until I really get every line of that song. But as far as I've understood it by now, it's most interesting and funny. Good backing track, good guitar-playing and the absoloutely appropriate way of singing the tune. Very enjoyable.

All the best to you and yours for 2021,stay safe,

Stefan

PS: Your songs (and comments, too) mostly expand my lexicon of the English languiage. Started with the post in which I learned that the verb 'to speed up' hass a regular AND an irregular past tense form.... cool

I just remember seeing this yesterday and reading lyrics, now I had to fish for it to end of the second page...

Ray,
Super tune! Lyrics, performance everything works very well. Vocals are a little distant, but very clear. I can see musical perfectionists grinding their teeth smile Fun stuff. You should do more tunes, like this beauty.
Thank you for sharing.

As Arte Johnson would say "Very interesting"!

I really liked your vocal on this one, outstanding. Great backing tracks and an excellent mix. One question, how did you come up with those lyrics? They are great!

Me, it's not about how many times you fail, it's about how many times you get back up.

Mario,
"Very interesting - but STUPID!" was often the quote.
Lyrics...well a chap went absolutely mental at me on line about not returning to the root and for ignoring all of "the rules" so I thought I'd break an whole pile of them in response.
As you can hear I don't really follow a proper 12 bar format, I make a silly key change..I had some more bizarre stuff in there like disharmonies etc but tamed it after a while.
Lyrically I was reminded of the squillions of great artists and musicians/composers who broke old rules to create new ones etc. and pulled a few visual artists from my scone...I studied art & art history in high school & teachers' college so I was luck enough to have an instant list of suspects. The song wrote itself really.

Cheers

I'm amazed you could work all those artists into a song like that. That is not only very cleaver but also very good writing. That alone give you high marks in my book, but the song is good apart from that. The band got it too. Good work.

Hi Ray
I also studied art and art history in high school, so it was lots of fun hearing you roll out those familiar names in a series of clever and amusing lines. Found the non traditional take on the blues very engaging. Your vocal reminded me a little bit of Jonathan Richman when he fronted the modern lovers, probably helped by the fact that they recorded a song called Pablo Picasso.
Regards,
Leon

Thanks Leon,
I saw JR in Sydney when he did his 1st solo tour.
A hero for at least two of his musical phases if not all.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
