SONG TITLE : "A SLOW SONG"
(NOTE will be deleting this song by monday. and replaceing with a new song.. per what rayc idea downthread the new song will have its own thread.)

https://soundcloud.com/user-302791555/slowcalf20

ARTIST : moi..ALF-L..(a lad from london (c) 2020)
(i like to sing in lots of different vocal "styles". this is one of them.)
DETAILS :
1. i will be posting over the coming months several songs of the nearly 100 ive done useing the biab/rb/reaper combo over the years. people are free to critique. as they see fit.
good or bad doing songs is just at my core of my soul. hopefully other people enjoy them. many apologies if they dont. i just do my best.
note. please use decent in ear earbuds to listen. i'll leave this up for a few days and then replace with a new song.
2. "Slow song" is not a style i usually do. its a simple ballad song that came about as follows....
2.1 just before covid came on the scene in late 2019 i had very very serious surgery. i wont bore you good people with. up till this point in my life i had always liked being "on the go in life".
ie always high energy. had never seen a hospital . but the surgeons kept on saying to my lovely wife repeatedly "you must ensure he slows down while he recovers".
"maybe do a slow song instead of rock". lol. this was repeated loads of times. thus...the germ of a rough song idea formed.. i had a wonderfull team of surgeons, doctors, and nurses etc. and in some part this is a tribute to them looking after me so well. much to the releif of my wife and my family.
some were musos also; thus the slow down suggestions.
2.2 at the same time i remember from years ago ; a group of us used to get together and a male friend of mine was really smitten with a certain woman that flitted in and out of our group of friends at various times. so the lyrics in part are based on that situation.
2.3 also to make me "slow down" after the surgery my wife bought me the biab upgrade to 2020 from an earlier biab version hoping it would keep me occupied and slow me down while i figured out the new biab version..lol.. so this song was the first i flushed out useing biab 2020.
3. more details.
i spent quite some time reinforcing/manipulating the biab background voc RT's with my own vocs etc. main vocs i did useing one of my ballad singing styles..
whether vocs are good or not. dont know. i like them , but maybe others wont.
so i'm to blame lol.
the rest of the instrumentation was all RT's/some mids and manipulation of such in some cases.
apologies once again if some people dont like the song.
best

The post seems to be working now. I really like your song and performance. It's a very nice production and I must say I enjoyed your vocal performance. Overall, the song was quite a treat. Your vocals sound somewhat like Ringo Starr.... wink Which in my book puts you in good company.

Enjoyed my listen.

I hear the Ringo - def. his strong voice on the RINGO album...mainly as you voice rises in pitch - nice.
Something along with, or maybe it just is, the bass has a bit off flap to it.
Nice song and lots going on in the arrangement.

You'll run into a problem replacing the song regularly as there's some sort of time or event number limit on editing the O.P. I ran into that a week ago when I tried to update a link to a mastered version of a song rather than the draft/demo that was in place. I'd deleted the original from Soundcloud and then found I couldn't delete the links in the OP or put the new one in.

I suspect you'll be better starting a new post for each new song. Besides, that way some re listening, compare n contrast space is available.

Cheers

Yep, I also hear Ringo. This sounds great to me. I really like your voice and your mix is also very good.

Me, it's not about how many times you fail, it's about how many times you get back up.

Hi Oldmuso,

You wanted a slow song that anyone could sing, a crazy, silly song with a melody.
Well you did and I was able to wrote these lines, because it was slow and easy. In a way...

I heard severall things going on in the song, starting right in the beginning with that funny sound.
Very nice. And I also heard something from Ringo S. in the vocals too. So you are now 'officially'sharing the Beatles!

It was a bit a pity you started ending your song about nearly a minute before the real end of it. The fading started at 2.25 and the song lasted till 3.13. I wouldn't have done that, but it's a matter of taste, I think.
Also the background vocals are a bit loud compared with the band and leadvocals. but that could be a matter of taste too.

But all together, I enjoyed your song and looking forward to other songs from you soon.

Hans

muso,

Really like the solo guitar. What RT? (it is helpful if you list some details about the tracks).

A pleasant sound. Nicely mixed. Vocal is nice - I think you sound similar to Leon (here on the forum)...

FJ.
thanks for listening and your comments.
the problem with detailing my settings etc and rt's etc etc ...is i'm worried that a user might get frustrated
getting different results and not be happy with me.
its sorta like 2 guys can use the same geetar brand but ending up sounding different.
cos i use a lot of unconventional methods in searching for what i call "golden nuggets of sound".
as taught to me years ago by a producer in a big studio... "hunt for those sound pictures".
its sorta like hunting for hidden treasure under the sea.
i fail often lol.

i am not sure , "but" i think in the case of slow song i might have manipulated for the lead guitar RT 2406.
i do a lot of manipulation of RT's searching for a "sound".
for example when i got my biab upgrade to 2020 ....i had loads of time recovering from major surgery , so i did what i always do with each biab upgrade..ie go through every single style and every single RT and sound and midi etc etc. then i start experimenting with combos.
in my madcap search for nuggets.
frankly ive done crazy stuff like use RT's where biab says i shouldnt use for that style. i test cross pollenate styles and RT's etc often too.

i have to do this in searching for sounds cos i cant afford the huge spends big studios can on live session players and instrumentations and orchestra libs and samples/sounds etc.

hth/ymmv
once again , thanks for listening.
every happiness.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
