Hi All,

Josie and I wanted to share our latest song and video. This song is called "Radio Days" and is comprised of all RT's and was mixed in GarageBand '11.

Thanks for listening

"Radio Days"
Copyright © 2011 Josie Beck, Robert Dean

Perfect sky summer afternoons
Transistor nights in my old room
Feel the music and be led away
Ummm play it over again

Chorus:
Too young to rock radio days
Too old to stop radio days
Dialing out the morning haze

Endless hours and window panes
Waiting to fly in the fast lane
Traffic lights - who'll race the moon
Ummm play it over again

Chorus/break

Falling fast at the speed of light
High on you and out of sight
Heard our song spinning slow tonight
Ummm play it over again

Chorus/Chorus/end

Unfreakin believeable- I had a whole post typed up and the board threw an error. That gets me so pissed. Anyway...

I like this track a whole lot! The BGV are very good and very creative. The lyrics are first rate, as always. I have two observations on this one. First, I listened to this one the first time with no lyrics- just listening. A number of lines were unintelligable for me. I watched the video second- nice video- and it has lyrics. That helped me when I listened again without them a second time. But the first 'blind' listen- it was hard to pull out a number of lyrical lines.

Second is much more subjective. I felt it could use a bridge that took the music in one other direction, and then find it's way back to the main chord structure. It's a nice chord passage- very pleasant & catchy. But a left turn in there somewhere could add interest and contrast.

I really think this a great track- perhaps the most ambitious one yet from 'the duo'! Very good song and nice video too. Keep up the hits!

Hi Josie & Bob,

This is the best song that you have done together (in my opinion)

Bob, I would bring your vocals just a little bit more up-front as you have a nice voice.

Josie, I just love how you cut "Radio Day" short, it makes it standout.

Well done to both of you.

Best regards
George

Clearly a lot of work went into this one, particularly in the vocal accompaniment. They deliver some variety in what would otherwise be a slightly one-paced piece.

The video is very cleverly conceived and put together too.
Technical question – what software did you use to make the video?

There is something I find troubling about the backing gtrs sound – right there on the intro. Maybe too much of an effect, which is making the sound cloudy. On the other hand I like the short clean gtr phrases.

Lyrically reminds me very much of ‘Yesterday, once more’.

All the best

Dan,

Thanks for listening and your comments - "unintelligable", maybe it's my vocal and phrasing - I am a bit of an acquired taste in that department...

Again, thanks for your thoughts - Josie and I appreciate it.

Marc,

Thanks for your thoughts. We used an electric guitar track to support the rhythm on this one. The overall mix was a bit complex for this song and we went through several before selecting this one.

The video was built in iMovie '11. A lot of nice features with this media package.

Again, thanks - Josie and I appreciate the feedback and kind words.

Hi Bob and Josie,

It's yet another "wow" from me. You guys are fast becoming a marathon songwriting team. Your work is exceptionally consistent and always enjoyable to listen to. I admire your skills on all fronts - writing, arranging, vocals (foreground and background) and mixing.

All the best,
Noel

Nice song guys, as usual!
I loved the vocals although it seemed to me the key was a tad low for you Bob and your best timbre wasn't coming through. A compromise m/f key perhaps?
Also, my head was hearing a guitar solo between 2:07-2:30 which would have perked things up in what is otherwise a bit of a flat spot, what do you think?
Did you master it all? The level seemed low and I think some compression, limiting and high end EQ would give things more punch and sparkle.
Please don't think I'm being too critical - you know I'm a fan and I still really enjoyed this track!

John

Noel/John,

Thanks for listening and for your comments. Josie and I really appreciate it. We have remastered the song and think the quality of this new version is much better.

The Soundclick link is the same, but we had to replace the video link - the new one is here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wnadgTgS-M8

Thanks again everyone for your comments.

Hey Ya'll,
I want to chime in here and say thank you for listening and the thoughtful and helpful comments. Dan, Michee, Marc, Noel, John, Steve - your ears and time are so very much appreciated!

This is my favorite song we've done so far - because I grew up glued to the radio and because it's the new baby. LOL. What can I say, love the vibe of it - takes me back to the "it's got a good beat and you can dance to it" days.

We thought about a bridge but decided to go with the harmonies to give it a little twist of variety spice there without losing the flow. I Ilke bridges but sometimes in an effort to be different they can throw the vibe of the song off - so that was a subjective choice.

The distorted guitar was well - interesting - to deal with for a couple of relatively unseasoned mixers. I think the new mastered version really makes it jam.

Anyway, on behalf of my partner in rhyme, Bob and myself. Thank you!

So the link is now to a newer version? I think it's sounding better- hope it's not just my ears playing tricks on me! What rate is this mp3 Josie? Is the link for sound click the highest rate mp3? I ask because it seems a bit warbly, like a lower rate mp3. Try and never go below 160kbs. Even 128 is not good and any lower like 96 is unacceptable. 160 and higher is the target. If sound click is limiting you then find another site. And if your mp3 version sounds much better than the uploaded one on sound click, they are encoding it very low-fi and that's a no-no from them too.

But I do like this song a bunch too!

Hey Dan,

Thanks for the heads up but must've been a SC glitch. I did get an error when I went to check so they could be having issues tonight. I went back and triple checked and I hear some SC hiss that's not on the original mp3 but no warbling. The same mp3 on Bob's site - http://www.robertdeanwordsandmusic.com - is cleaner and the same mp3 is on the youtube video. Not hearing any warbling.

It’s all been said. Great job on a great song!

All I can add is “SugerLand” you’ve got some serious competition!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
