I just completed this one, although I wrote the lyrics and most of the melody a few months ago.

It started out as some thoughts on the difficulties of songwriting collaborations, after a couple of abortive sessions in my studio with someone who I found had 'win/lose' issues, although he obviously didn't like my approach either! I then extended these thoughts into the area of relationships in general.

BIAB style used: ELTONPNO
Drum software: XLN AddictiveDrums
Synth, Bass, etc sounds: Fantom X6
Brass: Samples from an old 'Computer Music' cover CD
Guitars and vocals: Me
Recorded and mastered in Sonar X1

"It's In Between".

Lyrics and other notes here.

John

Hey John,

Wow! This is a very impressive work. I congratulate you on a fine arrangement that's been mixed to a very professional sound. I sat here at my computer reading through the lyrics after I'd listened and found myself thinking, "These are excellent words. The metaphor has been worked cleverly. I really like the 'It's in between' hook." Then, of course, I had to have another listen

Loved it!
Noel

John,

Awesome man! Excellent vocals and production.
I thought the music was great and the lyrics were as well.
Clever use of cliches here. The in-between hook was great.
Gotta go and have another listen.

John,

Really enjoyed your creation. The vocals along with
your style selection really fit the lyrics in the song.

Thanks for you hard work and sharing with us.

Good song and I love the "vocal bleed" just before the guitar solo (in my rt channel) Sounds like someone saying "orl right" !!!
I love little moments like that which seem to be lost in todays chart music.

I loved it John. I love the song and the Synths are like ear candy to me. I love them. Your vocals are great and the mix was perfect. I dig the stereo.

I didn't know you were form the UK till I looked, but it sounded british to me. I miss real synths. That does make sense, right? So much nicer sounds than sampled instruments.
Very nice vocals.

I don't know what else to say but, it really sounded pro and most important, I am enjoying it.

I always like your work John, I am a long time fan. One of my fav things about your approach is the way you choose your lyrical and musical hooks. And for this song anyone who's ever been in the situation can surely relate.

Hi John

I'm a little late arriving here to this song.

There is no doubt that you have taken your mixes to the professional level.
It is such a relaxed yet present mix - perfect balance, nothing over-riding.

Impressive tune, lyrics and production.

Best - Ian

John,
I couldn't agree more with the others. Great tune; superb arrangement! I particularly liked the middle-8. It was distinct and different but fit the song perfectly.

It's all been said, great work John. Super guitar lead also! Loved the lyrics.

Terrific, full production. Well written and well produced. It reminds me of a bunch of things and compares favorably to all of them. Thanks for sharing.

Very nice job John... you really know your craft! There aren't many people here on the forum who can do a better job than you of putting together a technically well done composition. Indeed, if anybody can, it would have to be one of the pros.

Great lyrics, great use of instruments, your sense of changing things up to keep the song interesting is always very good. And of course, your guitar playing speaks well of the years you have invested in it... always tasteful, clean and appropriate to the song.

Yet, something about this song causes cognitive dissonance everytime I return to listen. After several listens with time between, my conclusion is that the words are serious enough to warrant a less-bouncy backing.

The music suggests a cheerful upbeat topic, but I didn't think the theme of people who can't seem to agree was at all bouncy or lighthearted.

But its probably just me projecting my preconceived notions onto your creative judgment, and as such, the usual grain of salt applies.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
