Another song with a story....

I started on this as a message to a friend who is a fantastic singer but doesn't really believe in herself. She is truly a find and her talent level is off the charts. Yet she listens to people who tell her she isn't good enough rather than the people who tell her she is. So the lyric line is about "Hey. You are a rare find. Go for it. And above all, Believe!"

As I was writing this, I was going for "Think about if U2 met Queen and they had a baby, and fed that baby Red Hot Chili Peppers, and because of it were arrested by The Police in a Sting operation." It is almost a spooky kind of feel, close to trance with droning drums and a guitar loop.

Props out to Rog who did the guitar solo and provided me with a fine young singer who took this song and ran with it. Rog also had the vision to add the effects that are almost an echo effect. I love what he did on the production end.

And here again... I uploaded this to Soundcloud. Depending on where I play it back, the drums in the bridge are either just right or too loud. I really need to get this sorted out. Unless people come to my house to listen....

Believe

I really dig the tune, Eddie. It's catchy! But it doesn't sound like a BIAB production. Am I wrong?

At any rate. Awesome tune!

Cheers,
Mike

Outside of some fill parts that took a LOT of cutting and pasting, this is all played in by either my hand or Rog's hand. And Courtney's voice....

I use Real Band exclusively, and this was a great example of why RB is NOT lacking as a DAW.

The hat ride came from RB sending MIDI clock to my drum machine as I recorded like 200 bars of it. I knew I could cut them off the back rather than add them later if I fell short. Then came the bass lines. Then the scratch guitar. Then the looped guitar. The drums during the choruses are Real Drums with a little sweetening from the drum machine. After that I sang it in the best I could so the vocalist had an idea of how it was supposed to sound, but this was never intended for me to sing it.

Off it went to England, where Rog and Courtney worked hard on it for a few weeks. She did MANY layers of vocal, and Rog did that solo that I couldn't have written any better myself. That heavy reverb bordering on echo was genius, and it fit the piece beautifully. The whispers at the end were a total surprise to me, but I loved that they added to the intended eerie feel of the piece.

I like this one too.

eddie - "Now, that's what I'm talkin' about!!" Awesome song. Cool production. Rog's guitar work is sweet! That last whisper gave me chills. Great job.

Floyd, when I got those tracks back and plugged them in and heard the vocals for the first time I was blown away from the onset. THEN the song came to the end and the whispers happened and I got the same chills. The only thing I did with the whispers was added the fade out and moved the last one to anticipate.

Rog has some talent in his stable! Waiting to get tracks back from his male students doing the last song I wrote which has not been made public yet. Waiting for the vocals to come back from England and a sax part to come back from Florida before I unveil it.

The Motown remake project will have to be on my home page since this forum is for originals only, and I will work that out as that project progresses.

Sounds great.

The whispers at the end are a great way to finish the song, brilliant!
the vocals seemed a little low on my system but didn't distract from the song.
a thumbs up!

I like this one a lot. Pretty creative and sounds like it could be on today's alternative radio stations (which I happen to listen to here and there).

Production-wise, the vocals are too low, the drums are too loud and I could see another instrument or two thrown in there to get a "bigger" sound.

The subliminal tongue in cheek part of this song is that you can, if you choose to, superimpose the bass line that Vanilla Ice stole from Pressure to make Ice Ice baby. I smiled about that the whole time.

I listened to this song. This song could be a hit. You can probably sell a lot of copies of this on I-Tunes.

Music is an expression that is a universal language, Never criticize anybody to harshly. They need time to grow but when they do, they do. Always be kind in what you say and do because the man upstairs is watching.

What are you trying to do, completely de-moralize my feeble songwriting efforts?!!

This is an AWESOME song and recording, and inspires me to reach higher! Posting it here has opened my creative thinking to some new ideas, and this tune will definitely help me "believe", and it will stick in my head.
THanks.

Hi Eddie,

Cool song. I really like it too. It's really hard to hear what she's singing on the chorus because the drums are almost drowning her out. The overall volume of the track is a little low. I agree with Greg, fix the mix and it's good to go.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
