Here's a song I wrote last month. I've been working on the recording for the last week.

This song was interesting when I was putting it together in BIAB... In order to get it to play the way I wanted I had to make certain measures 3 beats and then the following measure 1 beat, it worked fine but it did for some reason cause an extra beat or two in a couple of places like the intro and at the end of the half verse after the solo going into the last chorus... Instead of worry about it, I just went with what it gave me and worked with it. It also caused the ending to be weird, but I'm sure we're all use to that happening occasionaly with BIAB anyway, so we just end up going to a fade out...
But I didn't do that! I went with what it gave me and ended up with a pretty cool ending... or at least one that would be pretty dang hard to do live!

The vocals are all me. My Telecaster "Trigger" has some tracks as well.

All comments welcome,

Greg

Walk In The Light

Sometimes I look around and can’t believe just what I see
So many people lost in their own misery
Some are searching some are wandering without a hope
But don’t give up ‘cause it’s not over till your story’s wrote

Well Just look up an see the light that’s shining down on me
You know it gives me strength it bathes me in serenity
It’s something you can have a promise those who seek shall find
It’ll never let you down the only way to peace of mind
Always Walk In The Light

Sometimes I look around and all I wanna’ do is cry
So many seem so blind and they won’t even try
To leave the path that they’ve been walkin’ down for so damn long
But listen up I tell you now you can belong

(Chorus)
(Ride)

You’ve got to leave the past the one that always pulls you down
And find a way to grab a hold of what the rest have found

(Chorus)

Hi Greg,

very enjoyable listen.
I like the vocals and harmonies
and the dialogue between cello and guitar.
The ending sounded quite natural to me.

Greg - that was really really good, odd time sigs here and there or not - I just enjoyed the song.
Love that Tele!!!! What an awesome sound.
After my Strat, the Tele is my second favourite guitar.
A gentle uplifting song with a message that is not "in your face" as so many are. Too many folks walk this planet staring at the paving stones. Lift your heads UP!!
Good work with BIAB - i like the selection of tracks.
Your voice reminds me of a UK singer called Jeff Shankley who (once upon a time) played "Melchisedic" in the UK musical "Time". He had a great voice too!!
Top Class.
cheers
Ian

Hi Greg,

Kudos to you! This is excellent. What really stood out to me was the production. It is really tight and very professional sounding. I'm with Josie, this songs is my new favorite of yours, too. The rhythm is perfect. There's nothing I'd change.

All the best,
Noel

Greg,

Great job all around. The production is terrific - listenable all the way through. The play between the fiddle and your guitar is sweet. The banjo is a nice addition - tastefully done. Your vocals are terrific as well. It all fits together so well.

And... this is some exceptional writing. You've written a very spiritual song that does not "hit the listener over the head" with it's spirituality - or it's message. That is a real achievement. It is impressive. I listened several times and enjoyed it more each time.

Kudos.

What they all said.

I think it was Bob Dylan that said "...cares not to come up any higher, but rather get you down in the hole that he's in." Reminds me of your message. Thanks for sharing.

Finally got some time to respond.

A big thank you to:
Robert, Guenter,Danny C., Bob & Bud. I very much appreciate you taking the time to listen.

Josie, Noel & Steve,
I think it's cool that all 3 of you said it was your new fav of mine! Thanks!

Ian,
Thank you sir. You know a Strat has been my #1 for most of my guitar playing life (gosh that'll soon be 40 yrs), but I got "Trigger" a couple of years ago and he's been my go to guitar ever since. I still play my Strat at home, but the Tele's my gig guitar.

Floyd,
Hey thanks for the very kind words, especially the compliment on my writing, It wasn't like I started out to write a spiritual song... It just kinda ended up that way.
I have the first verse of a new song that seems to be about thinking back on how we were when we were young... But who knows if that's what it'll actually end up being about!

Thanks again to everyone!

I think this is a really good tune Greg. Sounds very pro to my ears and I really enjoy it.

If I were mixing this I would change the mix on that answering electric lead guitar in the left channel. I'd put more reverb on it and mix it back. As it is, it crowds the vocal a bit IMO. It's a good part, I just don't think it needs to be quite so 'front and center' Also, it kind of has a bit of a truncated sound to my ears and the extra reverb would probably fix this.

This is a really nice sounding track. It sounds organic, IE you can't tell what's you and what's BIAB - IE that's a good thing.

Peace,

Ian

Hey Ian,

Thanks for the listen and the comments.

I assume your talking about the fills in the 2nd verse. I messed around with the mix on that quite a bit... It sorta depends on what system I'm listening on. It is a little too hot on my studio monitors, but sounds great on the stereo in my truck. So I ended up striking (to me anyway) what was a happy medium.

Thanks again,

Greg

PS I think it's always my goal to make it hard to tell what's me and what's BIAB! Sometimes I'm more successful than others.

Greg, I agree with those on the board on the recording quality being excellent. I really like the guitar tone. I assume that it is you, as the guitar parts you list does not look like the type of style you used.
The song is very polished where the parts are well organized and flow from one to another.

I like the vocals being pure. It does not sound like you had a lot of processing on them thus making it sounds very natural.

Excellent track!

Cheers!

Eric,
Thanks for the listen.

Ricke,
Yes it's me on the guitar. I just had reverb and a touch of chorus on the lead vocal & just reverb on the harmony. Thank you so much for the kind words.

Greg

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
