The Dreams That Were Mine

The Audio system I used for this song was as follows:

I recorded everything using my laptop computer a HP Pavillion G series AMD processor (Quad Core).

I set the chords and selected the style in Band In A Box.

I then recorded my vocal (using Band In A Box, I used the internal mic - no external available at the time) this gave a very noisy vocal (background hiss) so I loaded the vocal into Audacity, removed as best I could the background hiss and saved the vocal as a wave file.

I then used RealBand and opened the sgu file. I used the default Track Category for the relevant instrument.

I used some of the RealTrack RealCharts for the Synth and Voices and saved them as Audio.

Tweaked the volume so (to my ears, which are not great,) the song sounded OK.

Created the wave file from RealBand and opened the file in Audacity to remove the count-in and Normalized the file.

There you have it.

Hope you enjoy!

George

A bonnie tune, George! I can't believe you got that vocal track on an internal laptop mic!

I hope that you're singing that at your local folk club.

Hi George,

This is excellent on so many levels! You've done a really fine job putting the song together - from writing to recording to mixing. It's definitely my new favourite of yours. You're songwriting just continues to get better and better.

Hi Bob,

Yes it's true that I recorded the vocal with just the internal mic into Band In A Box.

Yes I will play this at my local folk club.

I have to thank you for your kind permission to sing your song A Sailor's Life. It went down a treat. grin

Thanks
George

That's really cool George. My maternal grandmother came from Edinburgh, so a bit of that Bishop music made it's way back home.

George,

Unbelievable that that was done with a laptop mic. It sounds fantastic. The production and mix are nice - and fit the tune perfectly.

Sounds like a classic country tune - Marty Robbins comes to mind (I'll bet those guys wish they would have had your laptop!)

Great job.

I enjoyed it George. Good one. Just shows that we can go into endless searching for equipment to make us sound better but all it takes is a good song and a good voice! So that gives us all something to aim for...

Hi Josie,

Instead of trying out all the plugins etc (been there done that)

I just used the Band In a Box settings for the song, they are just so good.

George

Wonderful, Michie!

Your approach is noteworthy. I love the lyrics and storyline. Very well written and sung.

I think that you'll remember that my maternal grandparents were from Glasgow. Bob and I were just discussing our roots by PM earlier this morning. Wouldn't it be something if we were all shirttail kin? It is a very small world after all.

FWIW, I also use the default settings in BIAB. They are difficult to improve upon.

This takes me back to the roots of country music.... the greats like Marty Robbins and so many others.

This sounds good. Fascinating way you did this..... just goes to show where there's a will there's a way.

The solo guitar tracks in RB are freaking amazing.

Good job

Hi Guitarhacker,

Yep.. sometimes Band In A Box just excels at some styles.

Didn't really have to mess with it too much.

The solo was all Band In A Box (first take) smile

Thanks for taking a listen.
