Hi All.

After singing for so many others, I've finally found time to do one of my own songs. This will be my last one before heading off to Guildford Music College in the deep south of England. I'll still be watching the forum and I hope to still do some work with ROG by swapping files over the internet as we do with Eddie.
I'm doing all the vocals and the backing guitar and Roger did the guitar solo and bass and drum programming. We produced it between us. Hope you like it, even though the subject is a bit dark!

Voices In Your Head
Keep it in the back of your mind
Don't let them hear a word that you think
Everybody knows it's just the voices in your head
It's not your concience talking
It's not your intuition
You don't get spidey sense just voices in your head.

When it says left, best go right
When it says up, best go down
Remember not to listen to voices in your head
It'll send you on a backward spiral
Falling in a sea of dreams
The dreams will turn to nightmares with voices in your head

Listen to the voices, listen to the voices in your head
Do the things we tell you, do the things we tell you like we said
Nobody is listening, nobody can hear us only you
No one understands you, no one understands the things you do.

Thanks for listening - all comments welcome.

Josh.

Hi Josh

I really like the driving style, and the guitar works really well. Great solo. Well done I reckon!

And great lyrics actually. Thought provoking...

Hope college goes well. Keep up the good work

Josh,

when the song started, my first thought was "Smells like Teen Spirit, but with different chords"... which in turn made me wonder if Kurt Cobain heard voices in his head... Which made me shiver and come back to the song review.

But it didn't take long for you to differentiate your song. My final conclusion is that your song is quite original. Specifically, I liked:

1) the switch to falsetto for the phrase "voices in your head" as though the internal voices were singing that part themselves... nice touch.

2) I liked the verse at the end in which the voices "take over" and have the final say. it's A little bit creepy, but it makes a very effective statement given the theme of your song

3) your lyrics are intelligent and thought provoking, and they do a remarkable job of maintaining rhyme and meter. I didn't count off syllables as I listened (to me that's going overboard) but at first blush nothing sounded "wrong" or forced(and that's not always the case in hobbyist recording forums)

4) I thought it would have been an interesting twist if on the line where you sing
"When it says left, best go right", if the left speaker said "LEFT" both times (in the falsetto voice) while the right speaker said "RIGHT" in your voice. That would create the almost subliminal perception that the voice was contradicting you even as you sung your own song. It would go by so fast most people wouldn't notice it until later

5) as usual ROG did a great job with the solo, drums and mixing. You are fortunate to have had Rog's guidance all this time. I suspect that when you start school you will have a big head start over many of your peers. Please keep in touch, and I wish you well at school! You are a very talented young man!

Josh,
2.16 onwards sounds like the Rutles! The riff sounds like another song but I am damned if I can remember which; no matter as this song stands out.
good luck at Guildford, I hope they understand your Yorkshire accent, if you have one!!
I do like all the background vocals.
A wonderful ROG sound as usual as it shows that it is not the DAW, it is how it is used.It sounds like that was recorded in a far more expensive and feature laden DAW.
WELL DONE ROG! and Josh for the song.

Great Job! Love It. Towards the end it started to sound like one of those trippy Beatles songs. Very Cool. Good luck at school. I want to hear more like

this. Thanks for posting, Tom

Hi Josh.

I really think this has to be one of the best things you've done so far. It's a great track and I feel privileged to have worked on on it with you.

Good luck for Guildford - go and show those southerners how we professionals do it up north! Hope to see you in November for the gig.

Excellent work Josh, very original and full of hooks, especially the middle 8 (at the end!) which was a great move. Well done to Rog for the great collaboration.

I'm sure you'll thrive at Guildford, Josh.

John

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
