This is an original from 2011. I just completed a studio remix (see thread in the recording/mixing section). It was suggested that I post the song here as well.

The first version I recorded in 2011 at home was "OK". I deceided to remix with a professional studio to see if I could improve it....both from a mix and performance standpoint. I'm really happy how it turned out.

Parts:

Vocal and acoustic guitar recorded in studio
drums, bass, from BIAB
organ was a BIAB string track that I changed to percussion organ.
There is a wind chime at beginning and end I found on the internet.
The recording engineer did a great job coaching my vocals. Mix was done on pro tools.

Hope you enjoy. Here is the link

Brian,

I loved ever aspect of this song, especially the rather simplistic but haunting chord changes, you also did a great job selling it with the performance.

Guenter and all
Thanks for your kind comments. I thought about posting the original, but there is more to the story. Shortly after I recorded the original in 2011 I was diagnosed with neck cancer. Thankfully I did well with treatment, but radiation left me barely able to speak by fall of that year. Gradually I've recovered, but my voice is different. My range is now 1 1/2 steps lower on the bottom and about 3 steps lower on the top. The song is 1 1/2 steps lower than the original, and I had to change some of the high notes. It would be hard to compare the versions. In the long run I've become a better singer. It is now an intentional effort to hit every note and sing every phrase. My voice is different but now I have much better control.

Brian,

Very nicely done. I also like the production and vocal - works very well with your voice and delivery.

Brian,

Already told you I liked this - but I am happy to say it again. I like this! So glad you put it here for others to hear - most would miss it in the other thread.

Such a nice song. Terrific vocal and guitar! A great listen. Sort of a cross between JT and Chapin - not a bad combination!

I hope we'll hear more form you.

I enjoyed that song more this morning than I did yesterday when I listened to it.

Hearing the "story behind the music" made me appreciate it more ...I guess. I've known several friends who had cancer... many lost their battle and a few have beat it. One, a guitar player from the last band I was ever in, had throat cancer and has beaten it.

I wrote a song for one of my best friends who succumbed to cancer after fighting it for many years. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5DmLXESjGWs at 5:48 in the video, there is a picture of me, my wife and Wolf.... he introduced us to each other, so he has always held a special place in our hearts.

Very nice. All aspects. The laid back production works very well. Hope to hear more from you!

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
