This is a new song I wrote today from inspiration of Guitarhacker who posted a link in another thread about the key to writing a Country Song. I watched the video, read the comments and conceived the lyrics from the comments. I wrote the music with my collaborator, Banden Abox (BIAB) by using the Melodist feature to create the chord chart. Changed the style and tempo and added a single vocal track to complete the song. Enjoy.

****** Song Summary *************
Key=Bb , Tempo 105, Length (m:s)=3:39
4 bar intro, 88 bar chorus, from bar 5 to bar 92. Repeat x1 chorus
Melody has 293 notes, Melody harmony is < no harmony >(0)
No Soloist track.
Song is saved with Volume, Pan, Reverb, Chorus, Bank0,
Style is _FPBRTEV.STY (2 EvFgerpickGuitars wBand[120RS])

Trucks
She flipped her hair as we sat at the bar
Said Hell no, I won't ride in your car
You see these blue jeans painted on me
I'm not here for some cowboy wanna be

I want my cowboy to drive a jacked Silverado
Taking me down the roads of Colorado
I'm happy with draft beer or moonshine's fine
On a dusty dirt road just taking our time

Trucks, trucks, and a cowboy's fast line
Beer, beer, if its just the right kind
Getting a country girl ain't as tough as it seems
If that's all it takes to get the girl of my dreams

She wants to drive to the creek bed and party all night
Eat some watermelon, dance and get real tight
Her cowboy likes his Skoal, and puts the tailgate down
Country soul blaring as they head out of town

I'm not a cowboy who likes Skoal or bandanas
No country rap coming from my radio
Gimme some Jones, Jennings, or Haggard my way
Today's radio's not real country anyway

Trucks, trucks, and a cowboy's fast line
Beer, beer, if its just the right kind
Getting a country girl ain't as tough as it seems
If that's all it takes to get the girl of my dreams

It occurred to me she's seen all she'd need
For a girl like her to take a good look at me
A girl like that could be the ruin of me
I'd spend all my money on an F-150

She's a simple girl free as the air that I breathe
Who puts in her time at the town factory
But I'll leave miss painted jeans to her fantasies
My Lamborghini is the last she'll see of me

Trucks, trucks, and a cowboy's fast line
Beer, beer, if its just the right kind
Gettin a country girl ain't as tough as it seems
If that's all it takes to get the girl of my dreams

Trucks, trucks, and a cowboy's fast line
Beer, beer, if its just the right kind
Gettin a country girl ain't as tough as it seems
If that's all it takes to get the girl of my dreams

I think I've known a few girls like that along the path my life has taken.....

But I have to disagree....I think a real cowboy would have an old 65 chevy with more bondo and rust, and not a jacked silverado. Just a simple observation from knowing a few along the way.

OK... that ^^^^ is just me being a smart a$$ or something like it...

The song is good and I'm glad some commentary from me (and some others I'm sure) was the inspiration for you to set down and write this song.

To that I say JOB WELL DONE.

Now.... yes, back in the day, one of the bands I played in started out our musical misadventures by playing lots of gigs in a little honky-tonk hole in the wall bar where, for some reason, cowboys liked to gather. It was a military town and many of those guys were bull riders and bronk busters..... a number of others were "sidewalk commando cowboys" who tried to be what they weren't and it showed. The real cowboys mostly just tolerated them and smiled knowingly at the BS stories the wannabee cowboys would tell. It was great fun to be there in that crowd. Good folks. Cowboys who were also US Marines.... talk about someone having your back in a tight situation.....

It was those guys, and in particular a handful of them, who were the inspiration for the song I wrote a while back called Where Does A Cowboy Go..... you can find it on my website.

No matter what the inspiration is for the song or any song, the main point here to this rambling post is that we, as songwriters, look for, and find the ideas and inspiration in normal life that many people see but "don't see" and we take those situations and turn them into songs. It's who we are, and what we do.

Good job on the song.

Good take on the current glut of sameness in country music. I do think you might want to consider a whole different musical style, though. Try and go for that county/rock sound that is more prevalent today.

I do think that this overdose of formulaic country music probably means (hopefully) that it is the beginning of the end for these paint by number tunes that seem to make it to #1 on the radio these days.

I really like this one. Your vocals are right on as are the backing tracks and the mix but this very truthful phrase to it over the top for me!

GREAT VERSE!

Hi Charlie. Enjoyed the lyrics and the vocals. Would be interesting to hear with a more country style backing. As you say Jones Jennings or Haggard. Cheers.

Hi Charlie ...

We really enjoyed this one. I (Al) lived in San Antonio, Texas for almost 6 years back in the 70's. I played all over the place down there! So many of the so-called cowboys I encountered there would have a crap-attack if you put them on a horse!!! But, the real cowboys are simple, down-to-earth, hard-working folks. Your song captured some good observations! Enjoyed it a lot!

Thanks Herb for your kind comments. My Mother passed when I was fairly young so I ended up being reared by an Aunt and Uncle. My Uncle was WWII marine. He passed away in May of last year. I never left the farm after coming to live with them and built my house next door to the old farmhouse they lived in. He was a quiet man, way more intellectual than you would think and had this aura about him that made you think he could be just as comfortable out in the woods as in a 3 bedroom home. He was a Marine in every sense of the word.

I listened to "Where does a cowboy go". Enjoyed it. It's a good country song.

I always look forward to your posts and comments and seem to relate with your point of view most times and at least on this occasion drew some inspiration to write a song. ;=)

Regards,

Charlie

Hi Kemmrich. Thanks for listening and commenting. I thought of doing the music to better fit into contemporary country style but at the time, I was also playing around with the melodist feature in BIAB and incorporated that into the song.

I think you are correct regarding the beginning demise of the current formula for country music. These songs seem to be designed more for a big budget stage performance than to be listened to and reflect on the message of the song.

Regards,

Charlie

Hello MarioD. Thanks for your kind comments. Regarding the verse, it's my opinion these young artists today are all coached by the big-wig execs and managers to go out and spin about how they are inspired by the great artists who came before them, paved the way and made country music great.

But even if they write their own songs, there is no indication in their music of real country influence.

Regards,

Charlie

Hi RichMac. Thanks for listening. Several have commented the song may work better with more of a 'real' country sound. An 'unplugged' attempt may be a good idea.

Charlie

Hello Al & Di. Thanks for listening and your kind comments. I had a brother who was stationed in Texas for several years and he's a big fan of Texas swing music.

The repetition of the formula used to write country music today and the video Guitarhacker referenced in another thread literally just about allowed the lyrics to write it self.

It's easy to drain water from a shallow well...

Charlie

Hi Olemon. Thanks for listening and commenting.

My brother who lived and worked in Nashville for many years always tried to impress on me that a songwriter or artist only has to get it right once to change the entire industry.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
