I wrote this as a thank you to the incredible health care professionals that have been lookin' out for me for the past year or so.
I thought that playing the violin only sounded a little thin against such a lush accompaniment, so I played it along with a 49-strings melody track - et voilà, it sounds almost Celtic Womanish to my ear!

Here's the video:

Hi David,

Is this your first post in the Users Showcase forum? I don't recall seeing your name pop up before. If it is your first post, a big "Welcome to the forum!" smile

You are right. Your composition definitely has a Celtic flavour. I enjoyed the journey and it was great watching you play violin.

I hope that you are through the rough patch you allude to in your post. Doctors and modern medicine are amazing!

All the best,
Noel

That was a pleasant listen - thanks for posting!

You recorded the violin 49 times? You've got the patience of a saint!

I wish I sounded half as good as you - the last time I tried multi-tracking my violin, it sounded like a herd of screeching cats. frown

Vocal control, you say. Never heard of it. Is that some kind of ProTools thing?

Wow, BIAB journeymen, experts and veterans responding to my post - I really respect you guys and gals!
Thanks for the vote of support everyone. I really appreciate it since I really don't have any fiddle tune writing experience. Can anyone point me to some literature about it or tune writing in general?
Noel, I think this is my 1st post in the User Showcase Forum. Thanks for the welcome, and I'm keeping my fingers crossed that the worst is behind me!
David, I didn't record the melody that many times - there's a 49 strings midi track in BIAB that I used.

Dave,

I'm a fan of Berklee Press books. These are published by Berklee College, Boston, which many regard as the worlds leading tertiary institution in modern, popular and jazz music.

A couple of books that I have, and recommend, are ...

They are general books and apply to all instruments.

Regards,
Noel

It's great to always listen to something with a little bit of difference.

This is really nice. Easy to listen to, with a Celtic Flair for sure

Thanks again
Trevor

Thanks Noel, I'll check 'em out. I also found a free songwriting course offered by Berklee via coursera.org starting Apr 21 that would be interesting to take.

Pretty music!! And, what a kind gesture. I'm a healthcare provider myself (PT) and we all appreciate the appreciation from patients. Enjoyed it! Take care. Greg

Hi Dave,

That's a great course. Pat Pattison is recognised as one of the best in the business! It's definitely well worth taking.

You'll find that this course is more about lyrics than melody. To be honest, though, when you start putting lyrics together, you'll find that melody becomes much easier. It will be worth the journey. The price is great too ($free)!

All the best,
Noel

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
