Hello. I am brand new to Band-In-A-Box and this forum. After getting the software, I wrote this song, generated it, sang on the track and posted it - all this past weekend. This amazing software helped me to express myself in a way that I just couldn't have alone.

Here is a link to the song:
Paralyzed

This song is about those moments when we know we should be doing something, but we just can't do it. Can you relate?

All the music was generated by Band-In-A-Box and I recorded the singing. I was going to record a guitar part, but I really like the way the song came out and I don't want to ruin it grin

I welcome all feedback and I hope you enjoy it!
Adam

Welcome to the forum Adam!! Interesting song. I think you did a very good job with it. The music really captures the feel that I think you're going for-the chaos of modern life. I have two suggestions which I feel would improve the presentation: 1) put some reverb (ambience/echo) on the vocal (which is well done), and 2) I would not repeat the chorus music/lyrics twice each time but only once. I think the song is well done! Take care. Greg

Welcome Adam,

As you say, BIAB is a great software, and for your first mix on it and your firt post on this forum I think it's promising.

Hi Adam,

welcome to the forum.
Nice first post. Really rocking.
I get the vocals only on the left channel.
Did you do that on purpose?

Welcome, Adam!

Nice job of capturing the "feel of metal" in this song. The instrument mix is well done. As Greg said, it would sound good to have a big reverb on your vocal - and move it center (as Guenter noted).

For a metal song, it is quite catchy - it's still bouncing around my head!

Hey Greg - I appreciate the feedback. I'll try to use some reverb and I will also play around with cutting some of the chorus repeats and see how it turns out.

Thanks!
Adam

Welcome to the forums!

This is a really good first song! I agree with Floyd.

{edit} I think this proves that BiaB is not only just for jazz and country!

Thanks Guenter. I'd like to say there was some creative reason for having the vocals only on the left channel, but the reality is I have no idea why that happened!

I am using an Alesis iO2 Express audio interface and I did record it on the left input. Not sure if it was a setting on there or in BIAB (or some incompatibility or conflict of settings). I'll do some more digging and see if I can figure it out...

Welcome to the forum, Adam!

Great job for a first post! Like Floyd said, it gets stuck in your head. I agree your vocals could use some reverb, and should be placed in the center of the mix. Looking forward to hearing more from you.

I just spoke with BIAB Tech Support and they very quickly figured out why the vocals only came out on the left channel. I needed to set the audio track type to Mono. Something about the integration with my audio interface. Unfortunately I can't fix the existing track unless I use some other software, so I will have to re-record it.

Lesson learned!

Maybe I will leave the chorus repeating (someone had suggested cutting the repeat in the chorus) - I think it is good that it is getting stuck in your head laugh

Thanks Steve!

Hi Adam and welcome to the forum!

Glad you figured out how to get your vocals centered. I enjoyed your song very much. I like the length of your chorus, I'd suggest rewriting to change a few words or a line instead of just repeating the same whole thing twice or shortening it.

I can’t move, I know I should; If I could break it then I would
I can’t move I’m paralyzed; I wish I had an alibi
I can’t ____, I _____________; If I ___________________________
I can’t move I’m paralyzed; I wish I had an alibi

Just a thought. Use or toss.

Looking forward to hearing more from you.

Josie

That's BIAB for you. cool

Welcome, what a good first post! I enjoyed that a lot; all it needs now is a guitar solo. laugh

I would leave the chorus repeating as it sticks in the listener's mind.
I wound the volume up; opened the doors and gave the neighbours the opportunity to listen also and no complaints LOL so far!

I look forward to the next post, now you have sorted the vocal problem.

Vocal control, you say. Never heard of it. Is that some kind of ProTools thing?

Adam, I really like this. If you pan the vocal to the center I would like it even more. I also think it is quite catchy. Good job, Tom

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
