Vegas Till The Moneys Gone
© 2014 K Leverett

Running with the boys
Who just wanna change their lives
From the trailer thrash trap
We’ve been living in

Longing for the dreams
That are always out of reach
Wishing for what the other half have
Can’t be a sin

Made a plan to pull a hold up
Made it fast as any hit and run
Didn’t think anything could go wrong
And it would all be one and done

We’ll go to Vegas and live like Kings
Till the money’s gone
We’ll stay drunk enough to forget
What’s right or wrong

But we robbed a bank in Canton
Shot a man who blocked our path
And I’m sure the cameras caught us
And we won’t escape the wrath

All we wanted was a chance
Like anybody would
Take a badly dealt hand
Turn it into something good

Staring into the abyss
Waiting to be found
Feel the darkness closing in
Surely going down

We’ll go to Vegas and live like Kings
Till the money’s gone
We’ll stay drunk enough to forget
What’s right or wrong

But we robbed a bank in Canton
Shot a man who blocked our path
And I’m sure the cameras caught us
And we won’t escape the wrath

Too much good stuff to hit all of it!! This is spectacular. I'm a huge fan of this theme in movies (A simple plan, Fargo, Carlito's way, etc., etc,). You've captured it so well in song form. Love the sparse arrangement with the strings, and the vocal delivery is perfect, as is the tremolo electric. Beautifully done Kenny!! Take care. Greg

"From the trailer thrash trap"

Now there's an alliteration that works!

One line out of many, many strong ones.

This tune should be rolling with the credits
on an episode from one of the good cable
series.

Everything worked for us!

Great! The lyrics are fantastic and the delivery is just right.
Agree would make a rock anthem for a movie. Can almost see the movie. Desperado's head for Vegas. Never make it . Die in the desert. Cheers.

Thank you so much Greg, it's mutual, I really enjoy your songs as well, man I love Fargo, the movie and the first season series. I recorded this last year as a medium rocker and thought it could be better as a reflective type ballad. People have told me that they hear Springsteen or Mellencamp, but I'm probably just as influenced by Mark Knopfler. The Shrangri-La album was a particular favorite.
Thanks

"trailer trash trap" sounds offensive doesn't it, but makes for fun alliteration! I'd be in hog-heaven if this were to be played during the credits of anything, thanks to both of you, look forward to your next posting.

Kenny,

I had to listen to this for 2 reasons as my son is in Vegas at the moment and I also like your songs.
The arrangement and mix is wonderful and I see Mark Knopfler's influence but this is all you...excellent

A big +1 to all the other posters comments

I like the piano and the rest of the band. Your vocals keep the mood of the song.

Hi Kenny,

You had me as soon as I read the title! I immediately thought "what a great topic for a song"

Everybody wants to find a universal theme that people identify with on at least some level, and this song's lyrics are a virtual collection of such themes...

How many literary or movie plots are based on the desire to come up with a plan to change one's own destiny, to rise up from a difficult situation... ?

or even apart from all that... I think everybody has fantasized about going to vegas and partying until the money is gone! But most of us never do, so a song that lets us do it vicariously through your tragic character satisfies some part of that yearning in us.

I like your stylized vocals... they are quite distinctive, and that's a good thing.

Total agreement with all the other observations, particularly Greg's. He has a way of making the same observations I would make, but he always beats me and says them first! wink

I haven't been very active on the forum lately, so this may be the first of your songs that I've heard... but now I look forward to hearing more!

Kenny, I am quickly becoming a big fan of your work. Really cool write with an effective delivery. I thought the tremolo solo could have been louder. You make little movie songs. So glad you showed up! Tom

Kenny,

I love the way you put instruments together for just the perfect sound. The piano and acoustic...the addition of strings..and the tremolo guitar - each coming at the perfect time to make you sit up and take notice...

I love the way you write.
"All we wanted was a chance
Like anybody would"

Such a perfect line.

Love the way you sing. Pure heart...

This is wonderful.

Kenny,
Very modern emotional approach with both the lyrics and the vocal treatment coupled with an arrangement I wasn't expecting that really gives the song it's own unique identity. One of your best.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
