Hi Everyone,
Here is an other song of mine. Some people say they like it when I perform it here, where I am living, but I think it either doesn't break three legs to a duck (french saying).
But maybe it can increase my chance to win a BiaB Everything Pack (I have just the Basic Pack, plus some RTs bought from time to time) laugh

Le Sel (the Salt)

It has been recorded in Biab/RB with a Country style but it is not really a country song, neither a "Shanty" although the sea provides the matter of the lyrics that follow. Bracketed, a quick translation (of course not an adaptation)

"Il brûle, il est amer, Il fait rouiller l'acier; on dit aussi qu'on meurt, quand on en est privé.
(It burns, it is bitter, it makes the iron rust; It's said also we die if we are taken away of it)
(Since the very first days, human has salt at his side, as near as his foods that it helps to preserve)
Combien de goélettes a t-on chargées, de cet or blanc qu'on allait marier,
(Haw many schooners have we loaded, of this white gold that we went to marry)
(to the cod of the banks, with no mass and so often, whithout the ocean blessing)

Chorus 1:
(Marilou, don't dry your tears, let them go down your cheeks)
(and at yout lips, retrieve the charm of the salt that before, you tasted on his neck)
(Your man was a sailor, he have "eaten" a lot of it, in the sea-spray, in the hold, the salt was anywhere)
(Sometimes good and sometimes bad, was it worthwhile ? It kept the cod but chapped his hand all over)

(In the past, bargaining chip, it worths its weight in gold; from any France's corner, it was coming to the ports)
(The kings levied the "Gabelle" to fuel their treasuries; we made contraband of it, even at risk of death)
(Alexandre, he didn't search for the richness, just enough to settle, him and his brunette)
(He enrolled himself with a stroke of pen, on a sailboat for the Grand banks, not worrying about fog and gale)

Chorus 2
(Marilou, you can dry your tears, and start putting again blush on your cheeks)
(On your lips, red or parma, and start tasting again the salt of life)
(Cause today, goodness the chance wanted to put its grain of salt, and has found at the bottom of hold, à joy equal your grief)
(In a corner of your mind, Alexandre felt asleep, and today the life gave you a new boyfriend)

Marilou"

Great delivery Caloo

I liked the build, the pedal steel slotted in nicely. Well laid out lyrics, and overall excellent presentation.

Nice job.

Pascal,

Excellent mix. Nice arrangement.

It was interesting to follow along in English... thanks for including the translation.

Nice vocals and harmonies.

Your "band" worked well for this.

Well done.

Floyd, J&B, thanks a lot for the compliments. Always a pleasure.

I made this song in 2010 for a writing-singing contest. I was shortlisted but not the winner. I have had a lot of fun with the "House-Band" (real musicians this time), when we was working on it.

Hello Pascal !
Once again, I like the way you have to tell stories !
Your voice is very expressive and your music fits perfectly to what you are singing. Congratulations.
Christian

Good luck getting an Everything Pak!

I hadn't heard doesn't break three legs to a duck before - I had to look it up. Google happily served up this list of more French expressions, which is pretty cool.

I also found out about Stumpy, the three-legged duck who (amazingly enough) was once a four-legged duck.

Anyway, nice song - I should have said that at the beginning! smile

Vocal control, you say. Never heard of it. Is that some kind of ProTools thing?

Very sweetly done Pascal!! As others have said, a great choice of RTs. I would put more verb on the drums and pedal steel to create some space. Nice vocal! Really enjoyed it!! Take care. Greg

Hello, Pascal

I like your songs and vocals.
I feel something traditional of la chanson française in your music.
Enjoyed the listen!

Hello, Pascal. This is very nicely produced. Thankfully, the names of the styles do not bind them to a certain genre. The country flavor of the style fits very nicely in your ballad. Good choice of instrumentation and a great performance. I enjoyed the song.

Great David, you got the good document ! I know almost all these colourfull expressions that are rather commonly used and surely very old, much more than the amazing british duck you found on the web too ;-) Thanks for all !

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
