Here's the Soundclick streamer (problematic but OK) https://soundcloud.com/rayc/the-keeper-pygmy-beat-extendedAnd here is a link to a 320 MP3 which sounds a tad better... https://www.dropbox.com/s/dmz7td96pcts96p/The%20Keeper%20-%20Pygmy%20Beat%20Extended.mp3?dl=0Stylistically this is punkish but more probably new wave. Well, it has a '77 vibe. Here's a track I'm almost done with. Soundcloud is a bit rough on the cymbals though. Pygmy Beat Extended's The Keeper (copyright r.cochrane) featuring RealDrums Rock even8. Greg Loyacano (a fantastic drummer but happy enough to play along with the box on this one) on guitars (Les Paul goldtop, SG greyburst & Mosrite copy into double mic'd Marshall and 4x12 = mics blended). Bob Harris on all vocals and I did the Vantage bass into a Behringer compressor into a BDI21 DI then into a Scarlette 8i6 interface. The High hat was a little loud in the stereo drum file. there is no way of adjusting that effectively so I used a sharpish EQ dip and a high shelf to bring it under control. Ihad some grief getting the right drum kit for this song as RealDrums will only play as part of RealStyles so it was case of listening beyond the other instruments before using the PlugIn mode to drag the drums into Reaper to mix'n'match. The Keeper V1 And the keeper did come Bringing keys for the cage He walked through the corridor And onto the stage Ch1 As he turned to the crowd Seated in his mind And searched all the faces For a love lost to find V2 His tears fell like kisses On dark xenophobes And his eyes blinked like lanterns’ Beneath unlight strobes Ch 2 As he turned to the crowd Crowded with their thoughts Subconscious of the time And of how it distorts. V3 And so bowing he turned And he walked to the wings His mind floated in mem’ries Of less painful things Solo (double intro) V4 He followed the chalk marks On the bare timber walls On past lighthouses dormant And through empty halls Ch 3 As he turned to the crowd Pinned like ghosts enthralled In the spotlight’s arc As his past reinstalled V5 Still on through the evening Of a starless white sky To a place where the hangman Himself had to die Ch4 As he turned to the crowd On earth and on snow To fade into Present, Past Future to know Any thoughts/suggestions would be appreciated. Cheers ray

A good rocker. It's well played throughout. Vocals might should come up just a tad. I enjoyed this one.

Ray,
A good punk sound going. The guitars all sound good. Everything sounds good, for that matter. Nice punchy bass.
The vocal is good, but a little low. Same with the drums. Both are overshadowed by the guitars (by about the same amount - not a lot).
I like it.

Hi Ray.
A good driving sound.
Could maybe use a bit of variety in the dynamics and the arrangement.

Cool song. Lotta drive packed into that production and the vocals are definitely "hittin' the note." I'm down with floyd regarding bringing the vocal up -- perhaps 2db and cranking the drums up considerably. BTW, I'm not sure I understand what you meant by: "I had some grief getting the right drum kit for this song as RealDrums will only play as part of RealStyles so it was case of listening beyond the other instruments before using the PlugIn mode to drag the drums into Reaper to mix'n'match." I never use styles. I just start throwing into the chord sheet the RT's and RD's that fit (hopefully) what I'm shooting for. Even with a style you can substitute any RD or RT for what appears in the style. Anyhow there shouldn't be an issue previewing the possibilities in the chord sheet before dumping them into the DAW. Pardon the digression! And even more pardons if I misinterpreted what you wrote There have not been many displays of this type of production here at the forum. We both think you've got it going. Enjoyed the listen! J&B

Hello, rayc
Very good driving Rock. It reminds me British Rock such as Kinks. Powerful Guitars and Vocals. Lots of fun.
Best Regards.

Floyd Jane, Thanks for the response. Interestingly the drums are louder in the .wav file. The scloud compression seems to have pulled the guitars up. Interesting. I will keep your observations in mind when I revisit the track for a final mix before mastering. Cheers rayc

ROG, Thanks for listening. I had thought the lead & chorus tremolo had added the needed dynamics but will listen again - perhaps the trem guitar didn't make it through compression. I look at it again. Cheers rayc

RnAM, thanks. It wasn't built to sound like the clash but when the vocals were added that's the way it came out. A welcome comparison nonetheless. Cheers rayc

Janice & Bud, Thanks for the detailed response. I had lifted the drums by 1/2 a dB before posting but it does seem, now I've listened to the original mix file, the MP3 for upload & the Soundcloud streamer, that the compression has altered the dynamics. I'll have to look into that. I'd rather not mix for streamers so may have to post a link to an MP3 instead. Regarding the preview problem...I can preview from the RealDrum info dialogue box BUT drums won't play from within the chord page or from the main prog with chords inserted and structure/variations added. If I pull up a Real Style the drums will play though bass often doesn't as the error message says that the bass is missing - something must've gone wrong with them in the download - hopefully I can fix that when the disc/s arrive. I end up hearing the drums but as part of the whole style interpretation of the chords, tempo & selected RealDrums. It is odd and I will have to take up the matter with the techs I assume. Thanks for your interest. Cheers rayc

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option
Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!
Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!
For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.
Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.
Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!
Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.
Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!
If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.
A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."
"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."
"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
