I started writing a song about my paternal grandmother Emma. She died in 2010 at the age of 94. I had a much longer song lyrically and struggled with the song for a long time. Until I settled on the chorus as it is now, and just chopped off all of the verses after the Neoma verse. The title is a play on the title of a Woody Allen movie "Vicky Christina Barcelona". And choosing this titled gave me the final permission to be done with the song and record it.

Realtracks:
2474 Acu. Bass; 1759 Elc. Bass
Nashville 16 even Drums; EZ Drummer Shaker
1814 Acu. Gtr; 1262 Acu. Piano; 2542 Pedal Steel; 542 Elc. Gtr; 2533 Acu. Gtr; 409 Fiddle; 2446 Elc. Gtr

Emma Neoma You (12/10/15)

The keys on my accordion/ play a melody I start to hum
A forgotten song from long ago/ and some folk call it Zydeco/ It's in my bloodline

My daddy's mom was a Cajun queen/ Emma was her name
They called her Yam when she was sweet/ but she could be so mean/ like a bitter lime

and then I think of you/ and the memories that remain
you weren't always true/ but I miss you just the same

My tears are buried truth be told/ but my whiskey I cannot hold
So I run out in the pouring rain/ to shout and wash my conscience clean/ in the street light

that's when I think of you/ and the memories that remain
you weren't always true/ but I miss you just the same

Neoma leads me back inside/ and sits me where I cannot hide
she consoles me with her love/ and turns this nightmare to a dream/ she is divine
that's when I think of you/ and the memories that remain
you weren't always true/ but I miss you just the same

Let me say, Lawrence, that I'm a huge fan!! This is truly beautiful!! This may be the best day I've heard on the forum.

So I run out in the pouring rain/ to shout and wash my conscience clean/ in the street light

that's when I think of you/ and the memories that remain
you weren't always true/ but I miss you just the same

Just incredible writing! And your vocals (you and Tom Adams are the two best signature male vocalists, and there are a lot of great ones on the forum) are over the top. Your songs have so much heart, and vulnerability. This is incredible! The one technical change I would make is I thought the tremolo guitar was a bit too loud during the solo. Outro sounded perfect. There is magic on this site today, and you've contributed something great to it. Take care. Greg

Lawrence,

This is outstanding. I always look forward to hearing what you put together. You travel on musical roads that no-one else here on the forum does and your songs always sound so uniquely yours.

I found the music, the lyrics, your performance very touching, very beautiful. To my ears, the lyrics came across as a perfect mix of story-telling, commentary and personal experience skilfully woven.

All the best,
Noel

Thank you Greg, that's very generous. I will go back and listen to the solo again.

I totally love this!!! It is gorgeous in every way. Excellent vocals, excellent mix, excellent production.

I tried to leave a comment on Soundcloud, but for some reason the song file and comments section was hidden for me.

Anyway, I love it!!

Wow!!!

What a song from a world class singer. Janice immediately said that it reminded her
of a Daniel Lanois production.

We aren't gonna quote lines, we aren't gonna parse things out -- rather just go back for
another listen.

As Noel said "I found the music, the lyrics, your performance very touching, very beautiful.
To my ears, the lyrics came across as a perfect mix of story-tellling, commentary and
personal experience skilfully woven." YES.

As Tom said "Goose bump good!" YES

Americana radio needs you.

Lawrence,

You are a ‘true modern day troubadour, and with that inimitable gravel in your voice, you did this great song full justice.. Need I say more.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
